I've had some audio clips decide they are no longer recognised despite the fact that I haven't actually moved them. Lightworks no longer recognises the clips, they have gone white on the timeline and no sound plays. But relink missing isn't available as an option. I'm getting really frustrated. This happened while moving video clips from one location to another. It doesn't make any sense at all.

When you say moving video clips from one location to another, is this being done outside of Lightworks?

Yes. The video clips are fine, I have successfully relinked them. Unrelated audio clips seem to have unlinked themselves, gone bad, whatever (but only sometimes, they are reused between projects and sequences).

Please post a screenshot of the metadata of your audio clip.
Helpful could be the line "Media Location".
Example :

(In your case, use the tile of the audio clip instead of the video clip shown)

Please restart Lightworks before proceeding, first.

After restart, Click on "Project" upper left hand side, then "Media", make a screenshot of panel "Locations" and post it please.

Are those audio-only clips in MP3 format and, is any video clip affected?

No videos are affected.

There are a number of problematic sound files, and they are all .mp3.

All other formats appear to be unaffected (m4a, wav etc)

When importing mp3, Lightworks converts to wav and places the resulting files in the internal media space even when import method Create Link is selected.
By default media space is build only by one Media Location, on Windows that's
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Lightworks\Media
with subfolder "Material" for video and link files and "Sound" for audio and link files.

If you never added or removed any Media Location from the panel, then you might have encountered a rare bug with V14.0.

Did you ever add or remove any Media Location?

Well, than the bug is a possible explanation, but I never saw that on audio-only.

It could be, but I don't know that V14.5 beta fixes the issue. You can install it side by side with V14.0 by specifying a different destination path, e.g. "Lightworks V14.5 RC6" instead of "Lightworks". This allows switching between versions working on the same projects. You'll find it under Downloads on top of this page.

If it doesn't fix the problem, we can try "Find clips to fill" method.

I've tried find clips to fill and it didn't seem to do anything. It only affects sound effects, not music. I have a couple of music clips that are .mp3 that are unaffected.

You have not installed Lightworks 14.5 yet?

Maybe the log file gives hints to the problem.
Windows Path: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Lightworks\Logs\error.log
Please put it in a zip-file and post it.

Did you copy the audio clips from another project into this project (with the Lightworks functions), and then deleted unneeded audio clips in the other project ("shared media")? Warning: please do not do that

Do you have a manual project backup that was created at a time when the audio clips were imported and online?

"Find clips to fill" needs some clues to be respected when replacing audio-only media and I suspect it will not work in 24 fps projects (mixed rates) at all.

But please, as explicitly suggested, try V14.5 first.
