Hi Everyone,

Im new to lightworks, and pretty new to video editing in general. I seem to be having an issue with the audio thats in clips that I import into lightworks. There is no sound from the clips, or occasionally right at the start of the clips I get a short burst of sound ( .5 seconds ) and then nothing.

OS: Windows 10

About the clips ( info from media info at the end )
They are recorded on an Akaso V50x camera in MP4 format.
I can hear the audio in the video editor that ships with Windows and I can adjust the volume.

In Lightworks
I can hear the test tones in the options Output tests
I can see audio tracks in the bottom editing bar ( A1, A2 etc ) and they are enabled.

As I said above I occasionally hear a short burst of sound right at the start of a clip, I can hear this in both the "Log" import view and if I import a section of the clip that includes the very start I can hear the initial .5 seconds of audio and from the audio tab I can see a sound level on the vertical audio ( volume ? ) sliders for the same audio duration.

After the initial noise burst I hear nothing and in the audio tab there is nothing indicated on volume sliders.

Any ideas?

Here is a link to the raw mp4 file shared on google photos.

Hello,

Please install the latest 2021.2 beta, create a new project, import the troublesome clip and see what happens.

Thanks,
Just for clarification, its not just one clip that has this issue, its all of them.
Im currently on the way out the door to shoot some video of the St. Petersburg grand prix, I'll really want the audio for that, so I'll try the beta and post back.

HI,
So I downloaded the latest beta, and installed it without uninstalling the previous one, I saw the installer delete files and then install new ones. I created a new project, imported a copy of the video clip being used for troubleshooting and had the exact same issue.
Any other ideas or do I need to consider another platform?

If your last sentence is supposed to introduce pressure into this discussion, you see me fully relaxed. That's because I'm not with LWKS, just a user of software.

Feel free to use another "platform" and just in case you can't find any which is able to deal with your media properly, you can come back and we can continue with troubleshooting your problem.

its not supposed to induce pressure. The fact is that even as a user an investment of time must be made to use software, thus the actual motivation behind free to try software. You learn how to use it and become vested enough to then purchase it vs moving to another platform that might have what you need.
In this case however the issue is, This is a software bug. These files have no issues on multiple other platforms, The question then becomes: How responsive is lightworks to fixing issues? There is obviously no point in investing time into a platform that is essentially broken with no chance of working, at this point I am troubleshooting for Lightworks, not using their software for free.

Thanks for clarifying your standpoint. I have no idea what the problem is and if it will be fixed. As next step I had suggested converting with software which is known to create a well editable formats to see if the issue is related to your media. However, if you have access to another NLE which works flawlessly with your media, why wasting your time with converting.

Have downloaded the test file at the highest available resolution - seems to play as expected in the current LW Beta version.

Know nothing about it but your mediaInfo includes

That most likely references a Huawei made camera chip. Don't see why it should make a difference in a video file but in a mad world of sanctions and racism, who knows what's possible

There are many platforms to share video without having to fear conversion by the provider. Google Photos doesn't seem to be one of them.

Not unexpected. Perhaps user Himilou may be able to share the original file?

Perhaps? Alternatively, user Himilou can download their file from Google Photos and if it plays flawlessly in Lightworks there is strong evidence that converting to a suitable format with suitable software can fix the issue.

If the converted video downloaded from Google Photos works flawlessly on your system, you can try converting with Handbrake, which is known to create a well editable format when using suitable settings. Here you'll find the settings I usually recommend:

www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=23&id=166802&Itemid=81#209009

Set the frame rate to constant 30 fps for the video shown above (don't leave it at 'Same as source').

I can confirm that your footage does on my system what you describe in your first post, it even crashes Lightworks V14.5 upon import. Converting as described fixes the issue.

Since this is a beta issue, perhaps the moderator will move this thread into beta forums where the LWKS developers can spot it more easily?

i cannot say if this issue will be fixed any time soon, because 2021.2 has been announced to be released next week. Consequently, converting all footage of that kind prior to import is the workaround you have, for the time being.
