Hi everyone,
I am a beginner of lightworks and just got to know that microphone can be added as a recording device for voiceover. I am working on a 720p 25fps project that I would like to have a better sync. I would like to add my AT2020 USB+ as a new device for Lightworks 12.5 Mac OS X. Before I tried to do the settings on LW, I have already checked the microphone is functioning well (e.g. run it in all other softwares and works fine) and the system can detect it. However, I have tried different settings on LW such as add a microphone/ audio mixer etc. , the device still couldn't be added? Can anyone give me some advice on how to let LW recognise my microphone? Would really appreciate any advice, thanks!

As far as I know, this is the only video tutorial on the subject. It is for Windows and it does work, last time I checked.

Hey donkpow, thanks for the sharing. But I still can't see the 'Connected via' option available on mine, it's blank just like my print screen shown.

Did you follow step by step from scratch? I don't know anything about Mac computers.

@donkpow : Yea, pretty straight forward. Just wanna know if it is some configuration problems or my usb mircophone is actually not compatible for LW. If so, I will have to export and do VO in iMovie which is quite lame hahaa I tried to use Audicity but still haven't figured out how to record in a set time frame (if possible?), so the audio file will sync after import to LW.

The way that the film and TV industry generally does this is to record the voice over wild, and edit it to match the video.

There were a few posts a couple of years ago (or more) reporting problems with usb microphones not being recognized by LW. Something about voiceovers via usb working only thrugh a usb audio interface.
It's been a while since those reports, so I suppose this is a solved issue by now, nonetheless I would ask if anyone is able to record directly through a usb mic to confirm.
I also recall that voiceovers only worked with PAL and NTSC projets, not in HD formats, but I did a small test and I was able to record (via analog audio mixer). I wasn't sure because I haven't recorded voiceovers in LW since I made the tutorial, and that was a PAL project.

I performed a test when you created the tutorial video using a usb headset. It worked fine on my 32 bit Windows system. I haven't tried it on the 64 bit system.

Maybe it's something to do with the Mac version, I wish I am still on my PC now....

I feel like it's just my AT2020 USB+ is not compatible with LW since I just created a new PAL project and the 'connected via' section is still blank. So I guess I will have to work on other software for voiceover, would be absolutely perfect if I could just do it with LW as well. Not the end of the world. Thanks for every comment guys. Please let me know if anyone knows the solution

Somebody else asked about using the feature on a Mac, I couldn't them, either. I would assume Lightworks works the same across all platforms but this is something that has to connect to the system to work.
