NO way, been looking and looking, reading forums, watching videos - to control when a text on a video starts and then ends. Seems like a complete madness - even the explanations seem incomprehensible. Ruined my whole day. How can this be so hard?

Welcome to the forum.

This has been discussed a number of times in the forum.

By using mark and park, you can set the in and out points on text, This usually creates a FX track when you apply the text effect, which you can use trim to further adjust it,

For more on mark and park, please see here: www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=27&id=110089&Itemid=81

Or, you can also unfold the text effect if it's on the little square in the segment, using the timeline menu and use trim on the FX track you've now created

Thing is - the explanation seems like it has to go back to the NEED to create a separate efx / Text track . . . THEM - maybe : where it starts / where ends . . . I figured some of it out - just used the big paranthesis type things to creation the duration - and dragged the whole efx / text to where I wanted. Whole thing needs a real goo goo baby steps explanation.

It's pretty simple,

Open VFX TAB

Mark and park where you want to put the title in the timeline.

Click the + on the effects panel, select Text select the type of title you want. Type in the wording. You can change font etc.

Click on the "apply effect" button. The title appears in the viewer.

You can drag the title box in the viewer to position it in the frame

You automatically get a FX track this way.

You can use trim to make further adjustments in the FX track.

Have an experiment, if you're not happy, use the undo. You won't damage anything

If you don't understand "mark and park" it's also simple. Place a mark at one end of where you want the title to be then park your cursor at the other end, thus marking and parking it. Then apply the title effect. If there isn't already an Fx track available, Lightworks will make one and place the title there.

That really is all that there is to it. Don't overthink it.

Finally, to mark, use either the "i" or the "o" key. In this context it doesn't matter which you use to mark the timeline.
