Hello,

I'm trying to do some simple text animation, where the text starts tiny and blows up towards the viewers as it fades away in about 30 or 60 frames. For some reason, I just can't seem to do it, the slider for the text size only goes from 0.01 to 0.25 (which is too small), and if I try to type in a different max value, like 0.5, then the minimum size just gets relatively bigger (so it still says 0.01 but the initial text size is bigger than it was when the max was 0.25).

I must not understand how text sizes work, could anyone please explain to me how to do what I'm trying to do?

Thank you!

The way to do this is not with text sizing but with a DVE effect.
3D DVE X-axis controls movements left and right, Y-axis controls movements up and down, Z-axis controls movements front to back.
You virtually move the frame in any direction in 3-dimensional space as well as rotate it around any of the three axes. There is also a scaling option to control size too.

2D DVE provides left-right X movement and up-down Y movement with size scaling, so is simpler to use, but doesn't do rotations.

Thank you for the quick reply David, and how do I apply the 3D DVE to the text and not to the video track?

See this thread for several methods of keying text over backgrounds with DVE applied to the text.

Going back a step - not able to repeat the original problem here.

Will post a full description after double checking on a system running the current version of LW. In the meantime do there seem to be any anomalies in the Graph view of your effect? Perhaps unexpected key frames?

EDIT: If doing the effect with a DVE make the original text size so as to fill the screen with the text - DVE both smaller and larger - will give best chance of avoiding fuzzy text when zooming-up.

Sorry to say - certainly does seem to be a problem with animating text size in the current version.

Thanks for checking into it, and the solution that David gave, along with your tip about text size, worked perfectly.
Thanks!

I suspect that what we're seeing here is a relic of when the title effect was designed. Possibly a 25:1 range over such small sizes was more than enough for standard definition TV. As I have repeatedly said I don't use the title effect at all if I can possibly help it, but maybe it's time for a feature request or two?
