OK, found it. Let us know how this goes, but I will be amazed if it doesn't fix the problem immediately.

Note to schrauber: the problem is in your declaration of SAMPLES in line 156. You have declared it as a float by assigning the value of 9.0 to it. Changing that to 9 should take care of the problem.

Sorry. I tried. That one I'll have to leave up to schrauber!

The one thing that I can say is that since the change that I made was to convert a floating point value to an integer, that seems to be what has caused this current problem. It may be that the value is used as both a float and an int, so it's type needs to be cast. Perhaps the best solution is to leave the declaration as a float, but in line 449 cast it to an int.

Many thanks to Scott Hill and jwrl.

Thanks, here is a version for testing:

However, I suspect there is another undetected compatibility problem hidden in my code.

Thanks.
This last error message unfortunately gives me no information about where in my code the problem is hidden.
In case the version included in QuadScreenZ_20200706d.zip does not solve the problem, I have created a version for testing purposes in which I have removed the advanced features (Antialiasing and Alpha softness) just to locate where the problem is.

Will either of these two effects work on your system, if so which one?

Hi schrauber,

Thanks for the new versions of your effect. Unfortunately, neither works.

QuadScreenZ_20200706d gives me the same error message as the last one.

QuadScreenZ_Test01 gives me a new error message that I've attached.

Ah, thanks.
Does this version work? (even without advanced features):

Many thanks for the tests and the feedback.
Test 02 is still missing the filters (antialiasing and alpha softness).

Here the revised full version with all filters:

Does it work now?

If this full version still does not work on all platforms, I have four test effects in the following ZIP file in which different filters have been removed to test if one of the filters is the problem. If the full version works, then we can ignore these test effects:

QuadScreenZ_20200607e loaded fine on my MacBook Pro.

No need for the secondary set of tests (3, 4, 5 & 6.)

Thank you very much!

Scott

Okay, thanks a lot.

I replaced the effect in the original post #219832

Revised effect "Quad split screen, simply".

The previous version only worked with Lightworks versions later than 14.0.
Now I have revised the effect code, so that it should be compatible with all Lightworks versions.
I replaced the effect file in the first post of this thread.

Schrauber, do you want this posted in the custom effects thread? Is it in a condition where that could be done?

I ask because I have an effect that I was developing independently, but if you want these posted I won't post mine. You can see a reference to it at Virtual Choir. I actually had a version of it called MultiImage some time last year - although that was actually developed for a personal project, and generated its own gradient colour background.

If I have understood it correctly, then your and my effects have different use cases, which are useful depending on the requirements?
My two effects are only for material whose aspect ratio corresponds to the export aspect ratio, because neither cropping nor position shifts are supported. The user could crop with additional effects etc., but I think that in this case my effects are not needed.

With the latest updates here, I have completed the development of these versions; only the code in the head do not quite meet the library standards yet. If I understood the compatibility tests correctly, then other users have only tested that these can be compiled, but not functionality?

I'll read about the functionality of your effect:
jwrl wrote:
.. It also has the ability to optionally set the size and cropping of all four clips at once, leaving just the positions of each to be adjusted..

User hugly also had ideas for new effects: www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=7&id=217156&limit=15&limitstart=15&Itemid=81#217219

Although I don't know if anyone's going to create these effects.

So I wonder if in the course of time the number of different variants (effects & maybe templates & masks) optimized for different use cases will become so high that a separate thread makes sense and the main thread will only link to it?
Therefore I had used a new subcategory for my effects.
Your decision what makes more sense.

My personal problem with developing multiscreen effects is that I don't need them myself.

But at least I learn the basics of implementing special features and how they interact with each other. Some things that seem simple at first suddenly become complicated when I try to achieve perfection under all conditions.

Your point about multiscreen effects having their own subcategory is worth thinking about. I don't have a particular need for them either at the moment. Whether there will be any long-term need for them after all of this international issue is over is also questionable.

My MultiImage effect was built so that I could have an out of focus background of "monitors" behind a shot without having to be too explicit, was used in one shot and hasn't been touched since. I don't think it would be appropriate to incorporate it in such a category.

My new effect, QuadSplitPlus, has some of the functionality of Lightworks quad split template, with a hard edged border and the ability to either size and crop the shots independently or from one master adjustment. Cropping is symmetrically adjusted for simplicity. I've also provided an opacity adjustment for each image, but I'm still thinking about that. I've seen it used in multiscreen shots, but I'm really not sure that the added user interface complexity is worth it considering the limited number of times it's likely to be used.
