This effect obliterates the outgoing image with a mosaic pattern of highly coloured tiles that progressively fill the screen to halfway through the effect. It then removes the tiles progressively to show the incoming image. The tile build and "un-build" are from the brightest to the darkest sections of a dissolve between the two images and back again. This makes the linearity of this effect highly dependant on the black/white balance between the two images used. If this is important to you, you can adjust it by adding intermediate keyframes within the transition.

While there may not appear to be much difference between this and "Mosaic transfer", there is in fact a substantial visual difference between the two. Play the clips of both (below) and see.

This mimics the Photoshop angled brush stroke effect to transition between two shots. The stroke length and angle can be independently adjusted, and can be keyframed while the transition happens to make the effect more dynamic. The alpha and delta versions look like this.

This transitions between two video sources using a mixed key. The result is that one image appears to "erode" into the other as if being eaten away by acid.

Play Erosion_Dx to see it in action.

FlareTran is a transition that dissolves through an over-exposure style flare. As seen in the screen grab, amongst other things it can be used to simulate the burn out effect that happens when a film camera stops. It will be added to the Mixes category and the Transitions right-click and F8 panel as FlareTran.

To use, add the flare transition like you would a dissolve and bring up the settings panel. Move the on-screen target to a bright spot in the first clip (you can change this to use a spot in the second clip by checking the "Swap target track" box). Use the Strength and Stretch sliders to adjust so that near the middle of the transition you get a very bright flare. That will be the frame at which the transition will change from the first clip to the second clip. If it isn't exactly at 50% on the Progress slider, change the Timing slider to match the point on the Progress slider at which it occurs.

You can also keyframe the location of the flare target, and the strength and stretch values. Click on the link below to see it in action.

This transition does a noise-driven transition between two sources. The transition can be flat, move from top to bottom or bottom to top, left to right or right to left, or from/to the centre of frame. Noise size can be adjusted, and the noise component can be softened. The alpha and delta versions look like this.

This effect obliterates the outgoing image with a mosaic pattern that progressively fills the screen to halfway through the effect. It then removes the mosaic progressively to show the incoming image. The mosaic build and the incoming reveal are both from the darkest to the brightest sections of a 50 percent mix of the two images, making the progression in and out reasonably logical.

The linearity is highly dependant on the black/white balance between the two images used. If this is important to you, you should adjust it by adding intermediate keyframes within the transition. This expanded dissolve allows optional blend modes to be applied during the transition by adding a drop down menu to select different dissolve methods. A timing slider has also been added that adjusts where the 50% mix point happens in the dissolve (slider to the left and the 50% mix point happens before the mid-point of the dissolve, slider to the right and it happens after the mid-point), a layer swap option (some dissolve methods are affected by which layer is on top or bottom), and a bypass option. The alpha and delta versions look like this.

Although khaver's DissolveX was the trigger for it, the alpha/delta implementation is entirely jwrl's work - don't blame khaver for any flaws! Fade up FadeUp.fx

These two effects fade any video to which they're applied up from black or down to black. They are shown here as fades since they each require one input only. That single input can be a composite of multiple video and effects layers, allowing you to easily fade in and out of really complicated timelines.

They are applied in the same way as you would apply a title effect, i.e., by marking the region that the fade in or out is to occupy. Once you apply either effect 99 times out of 100 you will not have to touch your routing. It really is that simple. The screen grab above shows the way the effect appears in the timeline, and you can play Dx_FadeOutIn.mp4 to see it in action.

And if you want to go ahead and download both together, they are in Fades.zip.

This effect is a digital take on a non-additive mix. The incoming video is faded in to full value at the 50% point, at which stage the outgoing video starts to fade out. The two images are mixed by giving the source with the maximum level priority. The linearity of the transition can be adjusted. This is the same non-additive mix for alpha or delta use.

This dissolves through a programmable directional blur. Separate blurs and blur directions can be applied to the outgoing and incoming clips. It can be used to simulate a whip pan, or just as a nice effect However if you really want a whip pan between two clips you might perhaps prefer Whip pan.

This effect transitions to the incoming clip by causing it to rise from the depths like a geyser. During the first half of the effect the whirl begins and increases its rotation to a maximum at the 50% point. A zoom in is also applied during this phase. During the second half the zoom oscillates as the incoming image mixes in. Finally, the zoom reduces to zero as the transition completes. Play SwirlMix_Dx to see it doing it.

If the spin rotation is reduced to zero the outgoing image pinches to the centre and holds up to the 50% point. It then bounces back and produces ripples in the outgoing image which cause it to transition from the centre to the incoming image. You can see that happening in SwirlMix_Dx_pinch. A very nice transition effect indeed.

This image is hidden for guests. Please log in or register to see it.

The alpha and delta versions are actually based on a completely different unpublished effect called "Vortex". Even though they work in a different way, since they look very similar in operation to Swirl mix they have been bundled here. You will find an explanation of how to use alpha transitions in this post and delta transitions in this one.

This effect dissolves through a complex colour translation while performing what is essentially a non-additive mix. Apart from the normal "Amount" parameter found in any dissolve, the midpoint colour saturation is adjustable, as is the colour cycling within the effect.
