This question is inspired by another recent discussion on this forum.

I'm going to make a slideshow using only FX tracks. I want to "import" HiRes JPEGS using the "Image" effect only, no video at all.

The following effects should be applicable to the pictures placed in FX tracks:
Titles
Dissolve
Wipe
Zoom in/out (visible, moving)
Image shift within zoomed picture (visible, moving)

How can this be done?

But why? (Sorry, I'm not familiar with original thread, so please link to the original discussion)

I do it with a background image on V1. I'd assume you could do it over video black.

Because I need a zoom functionality with little quality loss showing slides.

As far as I understood (and I can see):
When you import pictures like videos they are scaled prior to zooming. If you use the Image Effect instead they are zoomed starting from the original resolution and scaled only on export. I might be wrong and the obvious blurring is caused by other issues. Let's figure out!

Yes it's possible, FX over machine black (F9).

I do not know how to apply FX to FX, for zoom, dissolve and so on.

If this turns out to be possible, Lightworks would be a very good program for slideshows too.

I'll give it a try, thanks!

Here's the timeline for a slideshow using fx tracks for image key effect. Note intro and outro for more complex operations including titles.

I might be wrong and the obvious blurring is caused by other issues. Let's figure out!
From memory, perhaps the key word in the other OP's issue might have been 'tween' in relation to a work-in-progress animation. What was the 'tweening' process and what was the nature of the 'tweened' image??? Perhaps obviously blurred?

Making a 'slide show' on LW is entirely possible, as elegantly demonstrated by the honourable donkpow, but given the plethora of effective slide show software which might produce a LW importable result, it is arguably a monumental waste of time.

If I do it I generally make an FX template for both horizontal and vertical images, include a basic I/O transition - then recall the appropriate template and tweak as necessary. The 'add an effect the total length of the stills sequence' and then make an empty cut in the FX track where the picture needs to chnage - also works.
