Finally it's really done!!!

This is a modified version of the thread "User Effects grouped by category", holding khaver's original first post from "User Effects files (Post #1 has them all)" as it was up to the release candidates of version 14. The library that you see there is a post version 14 one, and will continue to be updated. There is also a brand new thread, User Effects grouped by category and subcategory which replaces this one. It contains all of the current user files and will be updated as more are added.

Of course, User Effects files (Post #1 has them all) will continue to be maintained and updated as needed. It is still the main repository of all new effects files.

So what you see here and in those other two threads is the result of the best part of two months' worth of redesign and restructuring. All the user posts from this point on were in the thread "User Effects grouped by category" and have not been modified in any way.

Now read on - jwrl.

USER EFFECTS LISTED BY USER.

This post contains the pre-version 14 state of the effects library in "User Effects files (Post #1 has them all)" as it was prior to the release of version 14. You will find detailed instructions on how to install and remove these effects in this post.

The plan with these effects is to add some more specialised transitions to the Lightworks palette.

Wow…. you did a great job with the creation of such a marvellous oversight, John.
My first reaction to your question whether to include the Lightworks-supplied effects was yes, that’s useful. But are you not afraid that it might become too much information. Users who know the program will have a feeling where to look for what you hope to find and therefore your summary is an ideal guide. Starters however might easily get lost perhaps and that would be contraproductive. In case the LW-effects will be included, isn’t it a suggestion to include the Ass.Appl. as well? Another "thank you very much" for this very useful result and the many hours you've spent!

I've done some test pages with Lightworks effects. I've put them at the bottom of the keying, DVE and colourgrade effects, and also created two new pages for titles and audio effects. I need to really get a feel for this so I'll leave them up for a few days, but after that there may be some further restructuring.

My concern with those effects was exactly what you've identified, Wim. For that reason I've just given the effect name, category and any text that Editshare have included. There are no screen grabs and at this stage I have no plans for any. The breakdown that I will give them will ultimately match my functional breakdown. For example, ultimately "Glow" will probably be in the "Filters" page even though it's installed in the "Video, Colours" category.

It will also probably mean that where user effects have been picked up by Editshare and built in to Lightworks they will need to be deleted from the user sections. This at the moment means that the original author of the effect would then not be acknowledged, which isn't desirable.

There probably should be a separate category for assistant apps, but I haven't done much work in that area so I haven't got many details about them.

Just a head-up: I've updated a some of my effects files - it started because I wanted to ensure cross-platform compliance using the same file on Windows/Linux/Mac, but then...

Anyway, the only one that's really important is light rays keys, which has had blend mode enhancements and an improved linear rays generator. The extrusion matte effect is also slightly improved in that it now has anti-aliassing applied to the extrusion. All three have simple changes to improve efficiency and/or speed of execution.

They have all been slotted in to their appropriate places.

Here's a user effect which I need a little help with! It's currently called Contours.fx and the image below gives a clear indication of what it does. Mixing of the original image can be adjusted from 0% to 100%, and the hue, saturation, and contour pattern can be tweaked. The contours can also be smudged to a variable degree.

So does anyone have any ideas for a better name? (Why am I suddenly thinking of the 1970s?)
