Hello, I'm working on a youtube channel with my mate. My 'contribution' to the channel is going to be a SciFi Review series in which I find hidden gems, underrated works, and forgotten classics of the sci fi genre. The first episode is reviewing 'Forbidden Planet.' I still have a ways to go, clearly shown in the green-screen FX of me, and the audio in the captured footage of Forbidden Planet, but everyone starts somewhere.

If you guys want to check out my videos they'll be listed below

SciFi MineCart

Episode 1 - Forbidden Planet

Episode 2 - Wing Commander

Grin Reviews
Episode 1 - Halo 2600

Episode 2 - Space Invaders

Episode 3 - Asteroids

Episode 4 - Joust!

Episode 5 - Berzerk

Episode 6 - Planet Patrol

Episode 7 - Empire Strikes Back

Episode 8 - Missile Command

Oh, and also if you have any sci-fi suggestions (any era, and anything from indie to blockbuster) I'd love to hear them. I've already got 7 sci-fi shows/movies I feel are underrated that I plan to review, but I'm always looking for more sci-fi to watch -Grim

It's great to see 'Forbidden Planet' getting some spotlight - it's an absolute 'must see' classic. The sound FX are groundbreaking:

And, as you said, the animation is great - the 'Id' monster was created by Joshua Meador, on loan from Disney. He also worked on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which won an academy award.

Sci-Fi movies you might not have seen (of varying quality):
Metropolis (1927)
The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
THX 1138 (1971)
Silent Running (1972)
Westworld (1973)
Logan's Run (1976)
Battle Beyond the Stars (1980) - bit of cheese
Flash Gordon (1980) - bit of lycra
They Live (1988)

Also, you might like the BBC series of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy:

Glad you thought it was a good choice! I've seen Metropolis (it's actually episode 7 on my list to review!), and Flash Gordon (huge Queen fan) but I've not seen any of the other's you've mentioned (except for the crappy re-make of the day the earth stood still), so I shall ad them all of my 'to watch' list! - Grim

Just uploaded episode 2, 'Wing Commander.' I wasn't too happy with how the narration turned out in this one, but overall I think it was edited better than the first.

Just uploaded episode 3 of Grin Reviews, do we have any sci-fi buffs on here that can name all the movies/shows our 'Asteroids Footage' montage uses?

haha @Tinman, have you seen 'Plan 9 from Outer Space'? I just watched it the other day, it is possibly the best-worst b grade movie I've ever seen

Yeah - that's a 'classic'!

I found a couple of articles / sites that might be of interest:

They are both great reads! The only part I disagree with is in the first one which states "The cinema took little notice of the A-bombs dropped on Japan to bring WWII to a rapid close in 1945." Which I think discounts Japan's cinema which had a few direct reactions to the event (such as Godzilla). Sorry for the very late reply, I fell unwell shortly before it was sent, and had completely forgotten about it until I came back to the forum this morning!
