I'm afraid I don't follow your Schumann reference here.

I wish he'd kept it in waltz time. That's almost a Charleston he's playing.

I think, I can forgive him, but there's no excuse for this cover:

It's better to travel well than to arrive...

No master acetate or tape exists of Karas' original recording, I understand. Only the various pressings in private collections like yours around the world.

I haven't played it in ages, but I've just dug out my copy. It's on an English Decca EP, DFEA 6035 (FFRR - full frequency range recording for those who remember). I was wrong about the recording in one respect though. The Cafe Mozart Waltz isn't on side B, it's the second track on side A. On side B is Anton Karas' Second Theme and something called "Zither Rhythm of Anton Karas". I don't know whether either or both tracks on side B are part of The Third Man or not. Since the disc is called Anton Karas Zither Solos they may not be.

What it definitely is not is the original soundtrack recording, although the performance as you'd expect is very similar. Judging by the serial number I would think that it was released in the late 1950s/early 1960s. The one that I have was bought second hand in 1963 (I think).

The version that I have is an Australian pressing of the Decca original by EMI (Australia), who used to do all of Decca's pressings for the south Pacific region. The English original would have been identified as DFE 6035. I've had a quick search for it, and found a couple of copies of a French pressing of what appears to be the same disc, called Anton Karas et sa cythare solo (Anton Karas and his solo zither).

I'm happy I'm not hearing any chatter about my needing HD or 4k. I'm sure plenty are thinking it, but I'm well aware that the image quality is a little funky. I did the best I could with the tools I had to hand.

And I suppose if it bothers anyone that much, they're welcome to send me a new camera. BMPCC, please, if I get a choice.

It's about the art, bro. At least until you need to make a living at it.

Some of us would say "It's about the art, bro especially when you need to make a living at it." Editors without an understanding of that are called assistant editors.
