I've been tinkering for a few years with my brother in law's bulldozer. He decided to sell it so we made a video to supplement the advertisements.

Handheld cell phone capture (AVC,aac). Overcast skies, facing south, breezy, slight drizzle in the air.

Lightworks (with DNxHD license), Resolve (free), Fusion (standalone), ffmpeg, Ableton Live Lite (with assorted VST's), Ardour 3 (in Ubuntu).

Lightworks: titles, image keys, DVE, dissolves, blends, speed changes, color correction, 1080p YouTube preset
Resolve: stabilize
Fusion: composite still images
Ableton: filter, filter, filter, ..., mix
Ardour: final mix, sync

There are a lot of technical problems on this one. I'd rather not work on it all week, considering its purpose. I've been on it for two solid days. The audio took every bit as much time to work as the video. The wind noise was overwhelming.

That's me at the helm, BTW.

That's an attention grabber for starters!

First question: where are the repeated pixels at the bottom of frame coming from? Is it a Resolve artefact, a Fusion artefact or a Lightworks artefact? Either way, if it's at all possible it might be a good idea to crop it.

Second question: it looks to me as if all the image overlays could as easily have been done in Lightworks using DVEs, and the process would then have been much more interactive. What am I missing?

However, you've made your point clearly and effectively. Here's the dozer, it's working, here are the details a potential buyer needs to know. Personally for that sort of market I wouldn't get into visual trickery - they need to see what they're going to get as clearly as possible. That's what you've done.

Of course, you could always have done a "Crazy Don's House of Dozers" commercial - or maybe not.

that will never sell ,)

but

just 2 men carrying a large greenscreen behind "hd16dc-5414" could help.

so now most people searching for "hd16dc-5414" will land here ,-)

(probably your brother buys a lwks 1 month ed. ,-) and soon there is a new REC.hd16d rev.hd16d recommendation ,-)

greets

@jwrl,

I don't know what those smeared pixels are. They don't exist in my video or when played on YouTube. Just when embedded here.

Only the first two images were done in Fusion, all the images over video were done in Lightworks as were the final still images. As to why? Because it is there.

Thanks on the praise. I wanted to appeal to specific people. Those people are enamored by the machine's operation and the technical details. There are also images of some of the new parts installed. Those are parts that won't have to be purchased. The machine is "vintage". It was built in the early sixties. If you look around, there are quite a few still working in Australia.

I'm sure he will, it is customary in these situations for the buyer to foot the bill. Ka-ching!

You'll think an operator is optional until you hit town.

I still like the idea of a "Crazy Don's House of Dozers" commercial!

"Crazy! Crazy! Crazy! One time only! Come down to Crazy Don's House of Dozers today! Boy, have we got a deal for you".

OK. It needs work.

I can see it now. Dozers airlifted in to the sounds of Wagner. Bikini clad show models draped over the arm rests. Cans of VB on ice. Hip-hop band in the house. And a decal on the back of that behemoth.

This was the winner of the 'best local ad of all time' - on the satirical de-constructing advertising TV show - Gruen.

Would you also say it is the salient point?

Perhaps not of the commercial but almost certainly of the 'competition' for the best.
