Lightworks Editing FAQ.

Why does Lightworks not do this that Premiere/Avid/FCP/insert another NLE does?

Lightworks is Lightworks. Avid is Avid. Premiere is Premiere.

Every piece of software have their own ways. Lightworks has it's own way. Learn it and use it as it was intended and it will serve you very well. Try to use it as if it was another program and it wont. Just like any other application.

There is no point in posting discontent, criticism and complains based on Lightworks not being like another program. Lightworks is Lightworks and it's different for a reason. If all editing systems were the same and worked the same way, there would be no point in choosing between them or offering multiple models right?

So please refrain from posting such topics which are not only unproductive but always end in flaming and heated discussions. Instead, try to learn and understand Lightworks.

If you dedicate time to Lightworks you will be rewarded in no time. Sure it is different, but sometimes different is good. You won't know until you try it. Till you really try it and give it a chance to do what is was designed to do and how it was designed to do.

The official video tutorials are a good place to start: www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=162&Itemid=246&start=QuickStart

You can also find the User Guide here, under the Documentation tab:www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_lwks&view=download&Itemid=206

There are also a lot of user tutorials here:
www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=showcat&catid=26&Itemid=81

Youtube is also full of them.

Enjoy Lightworks!

Accidentally closed an Edit

If you close an Edit and need to recover it, just use the Search Tool located on the side tool bar to the left of the GUI. Click on the Search Tool (folder with magnifying glass icon) on the side tool bar, select Edits (green indicator lights up) and leave everything else blank. Hit start. You will get a list of all Edits within the project.

It's always good editing form to name your Edits as soon as you start one and to place it in a bin. You can then pop it back up and work on it but it will be permanently listed in your bin, even if you close it outside of the bin.

For the record, Lightworks doesn't normally permanently delete anything. Before it does, it will ask you if you would like to do so and you will be prompted to click on a dialog box agreeing to permanently delete something. So you can't really delete it by accident.

Another tip is give Bins a name as soon as you open a new one. Naming a Bin will make it permanent.
I'm not employed by or officially represent Editshare or Lightworks. I'm just a Lightworks user.

The full Lightworks FAQ can now be found at www.lwks.com/faq

To use it, type a likely word or phrase into the Search field - it will display the most relevant answers, in much the same way as the search function in this forum.
