It's hard to break old habits when you've been using FC for ten years, but I'm trying.

I really could use a FCP to LWK translation dictionary of some sort.

But really, so.. how do I find the equivalent of the blade tool?

Hi mediaseth,

Yeah I know what you mean.

Here's the thing. If you position the play-head where you want to do the cut, then click on 'In' or 'Out' from the onscreen console then click 'Delete' this will cut your clip just like the blade does in FCP.

You can also use the keyboard 'I' for in, 'O' for out and 'X' for delete.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Here are a couple of videos that a FCP user made for people changing to Lightworks.

They're for an earlier version, but they may prove useful.

You might find this post helpful.

The following may be helpful for Avid and FCP users (thanks to mlevie who runs a blog for FCP users transitioning to Lightworks):

What we would call a clip, Lightworks calls a tile.
What we call a sequence, Lightworks calls an edit.
What we call an overwrite edit, Lightworks calls a replace edit.
What Avid calls a lift (and FCP calls a delete), Lightworks calls a remove.

Besides all the great advice already given, I would like to add that if you haven't yet, spend some quality time with the Lightworks user manual. This plus the official Lightworks video tutorials should be enough to get you up and running regardless of which application you come from.

One thing you will quickly notice when you come from editors such as Avid, Premiere and FCP is how different and simpler the Lightworks workflow is. I'm sure you will find it faster and efficient. But it's important to give it a real chance and start with a clean slate. I know it's hard. I had to do it myself when I got into Lightworks. But you wont regret it.

'C' on the keyboard will cut without using marks. (Empty Cut).

Thank you Orca! I have always since the early '90s used mark-delete, but I've now added "C" to my repertoire.

Jwrl, hitting Delete on the hardware console has the same effect as "C".

Cheers!
