Hi, I just started working with LightWorks today, and encountered my first conundrum. Is there any way to crop footage? I'm trying to update old videos that have black boxes all the way around and am trying to cut them out. Tips?

I did that and it cropped the video but instead of showing the track 2 video, it shows black bars. Any idea of how to show what's behind?

Open your video routing panel and connect your background video to the "bg" terminal.

Hello,

I don't know the technical names, but can anyone tell me what the gold and green "borders" mean. I'm guessing they show how much of the video will be displayed on certain playback monitors, tvs, etc. If I add to the timeline photos, should I make sure they are sized down to be within both borders to assure they will be fully displayed on any playback monitor? And would the same apply to the video clips I use?

Thank for any help.

The outer line is the action safe area, the inner one is the title safe area.
No important action should be framed outside the action safe area, and it's better to put the titles inside the title safe area to guarantee that everything is going to be visible on a wider variety of devices.

Frandesouza,

I like the cropping, but how do you delete the full crop? All cropping is gone, but I still have the small blue square on the upper left of the clip. How do I delete this blue square?

There are several ways to do this. I'll list three.

  1. Right click on the clip in your timeline and click Effects > Remove.
  2. In your effect settings click on the red "X" at the top right of the effect you wish to remove.
  3. In the video routing display right click on the effect you wish to remove and click on Remove.

nice, but is there a way to get a more precise crop? for example, if I wanted to crop around a head or other circular object

There are different possibilities:
You can work with masks or use the Wipe effect
Here is another example with mask.

You can also install User Effects.
