Trimming using Lightworks is an absolute nightmare. The dumb program makes the playhead move with the cursor, so you have no idea where you are trimming the video. It is nearly impossible to shorten or lengthen your clip to the desired spot. Terrible. IMovie is literally better than this.

Trimming is one of Lightworks best features. But the tools are optimized for professional editors. You are seeing exactly what you are trimming in the preview window as you do it and the frame you are trimming is directly under the playhead. You can use left and right arrow keys or the ",<" and ".>" to step one frame at a time when in a trim mode.
If you prefer the playhead not to move, toggle it to fixed position by holding down the alt key and clicking the diamond at the top of the playhead cursor. The timeline will move under it instead.

Good day to both of you, cremonB7865 and alucca,

Frankly, I appreciate that you guys prefer using other editing software, no complaints, but promoting that "It is nearly impossible to shorten or lengthen your clip to the desired spot" with Lightworks is pure nonsense.
It's better to travel well than to arrive...

Lightworks is pretty similar to how other professional NLEs display the trimming function.

This video show the flexible layout, but it's the same procedure in the fixed layout (Lightworks has the option of two layouts). There is also the option to have the curl(s) or the bracket(s) at the trim point. NOTE the fixed layout doesn't have a join/unjoin button - left click on the join to do the same job

The choice of editor is up to the user.

You can also use keyboard short cuts:

For anyone wanting to watch more, here's one of demo project videos showing the use of trimming when editing dialogue. Again this shows the flexible layout, but the panel arrangement is the same as used in the fixed layout.
