You split a clip with 'Empty cut', Lightworks Guide p. 70

"Empty Cut
You can make an empty cut in your edit, also referred to as an invisible edit, a
zero-length edit, or an unintentional splice. For example, you might want to
change the sync of one part of a piece of audio without affecting the rest. Empty
cuts are often used when you varispeed part of a clip, or when you make audio
level-control adjustments within a clip.

To make an empty cut, do the following.

1. Deselect any tracks you do not want to cut.
2. Press the Mark button on the console, and then press the Delete button.
Because the current frame and the blue mark are in the same place, no
frames are deleted. leaving an empty cut."

And you can also assign 'Empty cut' in 'Key Assignments' to key of choice, like 'h'.

How do you do that without the console?

Welcome to the forum,

Using the Lightworks keyboard assignments you use "c", this give you an empty cut.

Further details on the Lightwork keyboard can be found the User Guides together with other information. The video tutorials are also worth looking at.

Thank you so much... Can you reference a list of all the keys and their functions? I don't have the designated keyboard yet

Look in the User Guides in the download section, there is a table, plus a keyboard illustration showing the Lightworks keyboard shortcuts (you can print this out). P12 in the Quick Start Guide and P124 to P126 in the User Guide.

"Empty Cut...

That's the technique that I've always used too, SMPse. But obviously the Lightworks Guide needs to be updated. Now all that you need to do is hit the "X" key. No marking is required. I think that it was RWAV who pointed that out to me.

I don't see Empty Cut in the 11.5 User Guide, although it's mentioned in the list of keyboard shortcuts. I assume it's going to be in the awaited advanced user guide.

Yes that's right, you need not to hit mark. With the Console you just hit Delete. Or hit Delete on the global on screen console or viewer controls. "x" on the keyboard as you said. For the record it has been this way since I started using Lightworks or at least since I remember. I started using it in version 10.
I'm not employed by or officially represent Editshare or Lightworks. I'm just a Lightworks user.

You've chosen a 6 year old discussion for your question, but luckily it's the same as explained by ArteD above.

In V14, the answer remains as described within the thread.

I'm going to lock the thread, since there's nothing more to be said.
