A new feature in V2020,1 is being able to select a whole segment or a number of segments in the sequence timeline with yellow selection boxes. This feature can be selected or deselected using the timeline menu > Settings > Behavior > Selectable Segments.

However, don't use the yellow box for speed changes.

WARNING these yellow boxes select segments, a transition has to be treated as a separate "segment", even if you've selected the segments that make up the transition (see below).

You can select one segment, a group of segments or a number of isolated segments, so that the same procedure can be carried out on all of them.

This is similar to what mark and park does, but the yellow box can only select all of a segment, not part of one.

A beginner should get comfortable with mark and park, so they understand the concept, this is key to using Lightworks, before clicking yellow boxes all over the timeline. NOTE you can't mark and park part of a selected yellow box.

You left click on a segment to select it and repeat to deselect the yellow box.

You can also drag a loop to select a number of segments with boxes.

You need to use undo to deselect all of these, although clicking will deselect individual segments.

Deselect all unwanted the yellow box(s) if you change your mind, so you don't get unexpected surprises.

FIXED LAYOUT

EDIT TAB

The yellow selection box can be used for either delete or remove on segment(s). This works with the viewer controls or the timeline menu (below). Boxes can can be used to drag and drop a group of segments in a similar manner to mark and park.

In the V2020.1 fixed layout, the yellow selection box(s) won't work with a keyboard. So, you're limited to mark and park or using "mark all" ("]") on a single segment, in the fixed layout. Although, you can use the keyboard clipboard commands after using the other methods to delete or remove the segment(s).

However, V2021.1 and later do allow the use of the keyboard in the fixed layout.

See the flexible layout below for using the keyboard with the selection boxes.

Here are two isolated segments selected.

Here is remove on the above selection as an example.

In the fixed layout and the flexible layout you can use the tab key to deselect and reselect all the selected segment(s).

VFX TAB

It can also be used to add the same effect to a number of segments. You will see selected segments.

NOTE it doesn't make an FX track, you need to unfold to make that.

Note I reselected the boxes for the illustration, the boxes disappear after "Apply Effect" is pushed,

WARNING Don't use the yellow selection box to remove a transition, use transitions in the timeline menu. Just right click on the transition to open it.

FLEXIBLE LAYOUT

In the flexible layout the keyboard can also be used for Delete ("x") and Remove ("Z"). Clipboard insert ("f") and Replace ("g") also work. Note that with the clipboard the timing between selected isolated segments (i.e. not in a group) will be respected, so leaving gaps between them.

Ctrl + c (copy to clipboard) is also available.

Apart from the tab key mentioned above, there's a deselect button beside the Effects button on the lower right of the timeline as another option. This deselects/reselects all the yellow selection boxes.

WARNING Please don't use this feature until you're comfortable with mark and park. This isn't a replacement

Advanced feature:

Shift key: By holding down the Shift key, you can highlight a group of adjacent segments.

Lasso selection: Hold down the right mouse button, then the left mouse button and capture the area of the segments you want to highlight.

"Find" > "Clip references":
A very powerful feature in complex timelines is to automatically highlight segments according to criteria.
Position the mouse on the timeline or the sequence viewer, right mouse button, "Find" > "Clip references":

In this simple example, all the segments whose name of the underlying clip tile contains the number "0022" are highlighted:

"Replace with":
Automated replacement of many segments using Multicam Bins.

If the sources of your segments are stored in a Multicam Bin, then the menu item "Replace with" is available for both unhighlighted and highlighted segments.

In this example, "Find" > "Clip references" has highlighted all the segments in the Sequence from the Clip named SUNP0022, which is in the multicam bin.
Now, the Replace with feature offers to synchronously replace all these segments with the other clip SUNP0017 of the multicam bin with one click:
