I have two clips from 2 identical mobile phones with identical frame rates running simultaneously. The clips are set to sync by current frame. I enable lock adjustment and find a spot to line up. (A clap) The videos are drifting I can go towards the end of the clips and sync but then the beginning is out of sync.

Also, the new 2020 version changed the way you work with lock adjustments. It used to be that you could playback each clip independently. Now you cannot and both clips will play. The only thing you can do is move the heads independently. This makes it extremely difficult to use the "manual sync" method.

Of course, I'm under a deadline and I'm getting nowhere fast. Any help would be very much appreciated. I have the Pro license.

Hello,

Just to say, everybody can see that you have a Pro license, because of the symbol on you avatar. I have also a Pro license, but registered with a different user, so you cannot see that I have one, but now you know it.

Could you share mediainfo reports of the two videos please?

From you initial post I understand that you are under a deadline. Is the pressure not high enough or do you need information how to post mediainfo reports?

Thank you for the quick reply. As you can tell, I'm a novice at this. Here is the mediainfo outputs your requested.

My assertions appear to be incorrect. The frame rates are not the same according to this info.

Thanks.

Since 24 fps and 23.98 fps run at slightly different speeds that's most likely the cause of the drifting sound.

Lightworks starting with V14.5 support variable frame rate, as long as the target frame rate is a standard frame rate. However to move to the safe side, I'd suggest converting both videos with Handbrake to constant 24 fps prior to import. Here you'll find the settings I usually recommend: www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=23&id=166802&Itemid=81#209009

Tell how that works for you.

Problem solved, thank you. The sync seems perfect, and the lock position is as close as I can get it. Not bad at all for no time code. Lesson learned, examine and pre-process all clips.

Thank you Hugly

My pleasure!

Referring to your second question, I don't know why independent playback has been dropped with enabled lock adjustment, I even wasn't aware of it. What works, beside of moving the playhead, is nudging frames and jumping to next previous cut. The latter might be useful if you have set cue markers to identify sync points. However, if you prepare the media properly and if you have at least one proper sync point, readjusting is rarely necessary.

By the way, if you use separately recorded sound from time to time, the settings for speed compensation (aka pre-inget sync) have changed, which isn't documented. Please see:

I can only guess.

If you prefer something like the old ways...
I have tested something and in the flexible layout I simply pulled a tile from the Multicam container and opened it as a viewer. This viewer can be played without playing the tiles in the Multicam container (do not open the viewer directly from the Multicam container).
Once you have found the frame you want, you can drag and drop the viewer timecode onto the Multicam tile.
