Hi

i tried to add a mkv file to timeline but it has no audio.

Plz help

i had to covert it to mp4

Hello,

Lightworks doesn't support the MKV format properly. In many cases it's sufficient to remux MKV to MP4, instead of re-encoding. Remuxing has two major benefits compared with re-encoding, it's lightning fast and it doesn't degrade quality.

For your future recordings, if your videos are recorded with OBS or with other software which create comparable formats, you can use the function 'File.Remux Recordings' of OBS to remux MKV to MP4:

i figured out that under settings > output i can change output format to mp4 <3

That's the way to prevent the problem with OBS.

However, when selecting MP4 as recording format, OBS throws a warning saying MP4/MOV will be unrecoverable if the file cannot be finalized, which is true. In particular with recordings of long duration, it's safer to record in FLV or MKV and remux afterwards, as they suggest.
It's better to travel well than to arrive...
