TOPIC: Stuttering sequence player

Stuttering sequence player 1 week, 3 days ago #221273

Recently, my harddrive crashed and I've had to reinstall everything, including lightworks. I installed the latest version available: 2020.1 . Since then, the sequence-player (right top side of the edit tab, where you can view the video you're making) stutters badly. Even though it says it's running, it gets 'stuck' every now and then, which makes it next to impossible to judge the quality of what I'm making. Do I need to trim more? Or less? I can't tell, because I can't trust the video I'm seeing is the real deal because of the stuttering.

I've occasionally had this problem before when I was working on massive videos (several hours long), but now it doesn't appear to matter how long or short the video is.

What can I do to get rid of this problem? Because it makes it near impossible for me to continue making video's with lightworks.

Some context: I make speedbuild video's for games, which means I play video the video-clips at 800%+ speed and remove the parts which are too boring, redundant or too basic. I've worked with both mp4 and mkv. According to the Windows Task Manager, aside from power (electricity) Lightworks isn't particularly taxing for my system. Barely any CPU-usage and no GPU at all. Which is weird, now that I think about it.

Welcome to the forum.

Try using the internal proxy editing on Lightworks. That will put less strain on your system, you'll find out more on P145 in the V2020.1 user guide, which can be found in downloads > documentation.

Re: Stuttering sequence player 1 week, 3 days ago #221275

Thank you, that seems to be helping a ton! It's odd performance seems an issue when CPU, RAM and GPU all have plenty of room left, but oh well, what works that works. Thank you very much .

Re: Stuttering sequence player & max video length 1 week, 3 days ago #221276

And I'm back with another question. Lightworks now seems to cut off my OBS-video's at the one-hour mark. Whether I imported the video or not, within lightworks the 'duration' of the video never goes beyond an hour, even when the video is two hours long in reality. How do I stop lightworks from doing this? I already checked the documentation, bookmarked it even, but I can't seem to find a video-length related setting.

It may be your video's frame rate, but follow the directions in this sticky so that users can see the technical details: www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=23&id=66072&Itemid=81

You can change the timeline length from the flexible layout, accessed by the system menu in the top left of the project browser (home) page. Change from fixed to flexible.

In the toolbar on the left of the flexible layout, right click on the third icon down > New Sequence Commands > New Sequence settings > tracks > Length. Select the length you want - 60, 120 or 240 > select set.

Return to the project browser page by clicking on the arrow in the top left corner. Use the system menu to select fixed. The new sequences should be the length you selected.

However, even without changing it, the sequence timeline should expand to accommodate the clip you put in it.

I'm assuming you've created a 30fps project.

Hello,

Is what you show the video you have imported into Lightworks?
It's better to travel well than to arrive...

Re: Stuttering sequence player & max video length 1 week, 3 days ago #221285

@briandrys
I've tried it out, but unfortunately it doesn't help. Imported video files are still max 1-hour long. And before I forget repyling, yes, the project is 30fps. I'm using 30fps everywhere, on purpose, to prevent unneeded hassles, but when I look at the meta I see it says 40-something. Going to check my OBS settings.

But if I understand your suggestion, can 'New Sequence settings' influence import settings? Because I think it just alters the length of the timeline created when you create a new sequence.

@Hugly
Yes the video meta is from one of the video's I imported into Lightworks. I have another one which is nearly two hours, which has the same issue. Also reported with OBS, same settings, so the cause should be the same.

Please forget about using MKV files with Lightworks 2020.1 - there are issues!

I'd suggest, prior to trying anythings else, delete all MKV files from your project and remux MKV to MP4 with OBS:

This image is hidden for guests. Please log in or register to see it.

Then, import the remuxed videos, try again, and see what happens.

@hugly You're right, I seem to be able to import MP4 files regardless of length without a problem. Don't recall having this issue with MKV before, what what works that works . Thanks for your help!
