When I add my instrument to a friend's video file, I sometimes think my file is just micro shorter than it should be.

1. Friend's video downloaded from FaceBook or YouTube
2. my instrument is recorded on Android phone, converted to .mp4, and imported.

My musicianship skills are rhythmically precise.
What can make my added track playback a little bit fast?

Hi,

You can use 'Speed' from 'Sequence Commands' or the function 'Fit to fill' to change the audio speed. If this will work properly, depends on the cause of the problem. A speed change of that kind is fighting against symptoms, but not the cause.

I suspect that the speed difference is caused by your recording workflow.

I understand that you record your part while listening to the video on Facebook over headphones, then you download the video and import it unconverted in Lightworks, together with your phone recording converted with Handbrake. Does that describe what you do?

I see speed change for audio works only in present increments. Not able to use 98% for example.

You can key-in values. Click on the number to enable keyboard entry. Prior to opening the Speed panel, make sure that 'Auto track sync' from 'Sequence Commands' is disabled and stereo tracks are grouped.

Please note: If the speed difference is not constant, which is possible, you won't be able to sync the sound correctly.

When streaming from the internet the playback speed might or might not be correct. It is nothing you can rely on and thus, streaming audio is not suitable for playback-recording/overdubbing.

My suggestion: Download the music video to your local computer first and convert it to a constant standard frame rate, preferably the frame rate you use when converting your phone recordings. If you use Handbrake, do not use the frame rate settings 'Same as source'! Select a frame rate explicitly, e.g. "30 fps". Play the converted video with a local media player for your phone recordings, convert it when finished and use both converted files as source for editing.

Edit: Just in case: Here you'll find the Handbrake setup I recommend usually:

www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=23&id=166802&Itemid=81#209009

It shows "24 fps". Change to your frame rate, if it's differnt.
