I marked both the clip and the edit timeline and pressed CTRL-V but the fit-to-fill left this gap in the video just beyond the mark.

What am I doing wrong?

Your screenshot is a bit confusing, because the in- and out-marks on source and target are set in a way that the command 'Fit-to-fill' would create exactly the result shown. Furthermore, 'Fit-to-fill' is assigned by default to ALT+V, CTRL+V performs 'Insert from clipboard' with default settings, but you may have assignments away from the defaults?
It's better to travel well than to arrive...

Seems that a fit-to-fill command has been made on an imported still. Fit-to-fill changes the play sped of a clip. The play speed of an imported still is a greyed out '0'.

All that needs to be done it to trim the still to fill the gap - fit-to-fill is not appropriate or necessary with a still - probably.

All stills in LW, while imported as a user defined/default length, can be extended infinitely - well actually up to 23hrs 59 min 59 seconds. One does not need to add another bit of the still - just extend.

Edit: Good theory not sure it's proven yet. In any event a simple extend will fix the current problem.
