I've been trying to find a free video editor that was actually easy to use like Adobe Premiere Pro, but I've never found one. So I have to ask Lightworks: why? Why is it that nobody else seems to get how to make an easy to use video editor?
Why wouldn't you include a File Tab at the top like everyone is used to on every other program?
Why wouldn't you allow people to edit the duration of a title (text) with click and drag?
Why would you force people to change tabs to add clips to the timeline instead of putting everything on one tab?
Why do people make these types of video editors and then advertise it as easy to use? If I wanted to spend hours watching video tutorials I would learn how to use Blender and get serious about video editing.

Perhaps something as comprehensive as LW is not for a user able to devote just a single day to learning.

On the basis of the overtly hostile subject title, the minimal effort expended and indication that the next step will in any event be uninstalling the LW software there seems no point continuing with this thread, It is locked.

Should there be an interest in continuing with LW, yes there are answers to the three actual questions, please start again in a less troll-like confrontational manner.

And if you think that the Blender video editing module is "serious about video editing" I feel that you're in for a very rude shock. Blender is a great tool for 3D modelling, 3D and 2D animation and even effective for compositing. It is not a great video editor in my opinion.

Please note that you can change the duration of text with click and drag.

Regarding the menu arrangements. please see here for more: www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=24&id=193048&Itemid=81

The fixed layout has 4 workspaces, which is handy if you are using a small screen like on a laptop. There are a number of methods for placing clips into the sequence timeline.

Lightworks has two interfaces: www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=26&id=142324&Itemid=81

Each professional NLE is different, so you do need to spend time learning them.

It's said to be easy to use because the people who know how to use it, as they took the time to learn it, say it's easy to use. And it is. Fastest editor in the industry.

The fact you call Blender a serious editor shows that you may be out of your element here. Blender is a 3D program which offers video editing on the side. Lightworks is a dedicated editor. Listen to Jwrl.

Furthermore, this seems to be a classic case of "to each his own". I can's stand the sight of Premiere and am very glad Lightworks is not like it. And if what one wants is Premiere, there is already Premiere. Just get it.

But you need to ask yourself the question: Why Hollywood movies, which are complex productions, are normally cut in Avid and Lightworks and not in Premiere.

If what one needs is an editor to cut home videos and small projects, Lightworks may indeed be overkill. It's a fully fledged professional cutter. It's a professional tool. Don't let the free price fool you.

It has a learning curve. It won't automate everything for you. It's made for working professionals working under professional discipline. It's a specialist tool. None of that is bad.

A less powerful or less specialized tool is not necessarily better because it may be easier to learn. That would be like saying a Mustang is a better racer than a F1 car, because any Joe off the street can jump in and drive it.
I'm not employed by or officially represent Editshare or Lightworks. I'm just a Lightworks user.
