Ok thanks for the tip, right now I'm trying to just 608/1080 so i won't lose any quality and then I'll try to crop with other software. Anyone know any other software to crop with? Would virtualdub work?

VD2 should do, ffmpeg as well.

I cropped with vdub2 but don't manage to export from vdub2 in mp4, it lets me in avi and mov, but not mp4 which is what twitter and instagram accept.

Hm, I'm not familiar with audio processing in VD2 and MP4 doesn't support the default, which seems to be PCM, and the stream copy function doesn't work, at least I couldn't find out how. However, MOV container with AVC/PCM streams should be fine for all portals.

Just made a quick test with VD2, used 'Null Transform' filter to crop. Then, 'Save As' (F7), selected file type 'Quicktime/MOV', compression changed to 'x.264 8-bit', configured rate control, CRF 18. The saved file looks good.

I installed mp4box and external encoders and through that I can export to mp4 from vdub2. Yeah I saw the .mov looked good.

Mp4box is not necessary with VD2.

VD2 supports natively MP4 export. It uses the build-in x264 encoder (as one option), the same encoder as ffmpeg and Handbrake. The only problem I had with MP4 in VD2, I couldn't find a way to set the audio format to AAC (or something supported in MP4 container) or audio processing to stream copy. But, I'm convinced that's me and not the program.

I tried every mp4 setting with every combination, it would work on any. If you know a setting that works please let me know!

I tested it earlier and described it above, maybe in too short words. The only problem I had was the sound, but I found the settings to encode audio in the meantime.

If you wish I can make a screen recording which shows how to set it up.

FWIW

I did it already, including some cropping with Null Transform.

Cool, tried it, works great. Before I had managed to crop it it but I was running through handbrake to convert to mp4.
