Hello everyone,

I am a new Lightworks, just seen tutorial and found some difficulties. I imported my videos for editing, but when I trying to preview, only ~1st second of video is shown, then I can only hear audio, but video is "frozen". I tried at couple samples and issue still appears.
Does anyone know is this hardware or software issue and how to solve it?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

This can have a number of causes. Please follow the directions in this sticky, so that users can see the technical details of your video.

I just went for
Project -> Video
and set up some lower quality settings, then media -> Make a proxy

Preview is running now, but is in bit lower quality. How I can understand it, is just for editing purposes or if I finish my movie quality will stay like shown?

Kind regards

For UHD resolution media like yours, proxy editing makes sense. With the internal proxies, Lightworks automatically uses your original source media when you export, not the proxy files. So, no resolution will be lost when using proxies.

As mentioned by briandrys, using proxies while editing will not decrease export quality, but please be aware that the Free version of Lightworks is limited to 720p export resolution and this will reduce visible sharpness and details of UHD footage more or less, depending on content.

FWIW, V14.5 introduces better default proxy quality and allows adjusting resolution and quality of proxies with presets, it's close to release.

FWIW is an abbreviation for "for what it's worth". I put it there, because you didn't ask for features of V14.5, but I thought that improved visible quality of proxies might be of some interest for you.

I don't understand your question exactly. Proxies are video files of low resolution and bitrate. They are used to increase editing performance. In Lightworks internal proxies are only used when editing. On export the original material is used automatically. It's possible to switch between proxies and original for editing , from menu "Project.Video.Playback quality". "Lowest available" means proxies are used, "Highest available" stand for originals. Setting "Auto" behaves somehow unpredictable, don't use it. Even when setting "Lowest available" originals are always used on export. Under normal conditions, you can leave "Lowest available" always enabled, it's default anyway.

FWIW = "for what it's worth".

When proxy editing the low quality files you're created for editing get changed back to the original files for the export render. Your original files are untouched when you make the proxy files.

For some workflows you need to do a manual exchange for the export, but the Lightworks internal proxy workflow does this automatically.

When you've made your proxy files, you can use them like any other clips when making your edit in the sequence timeline.

Watching the quick start video in tutorials (tab at top of website) will take you through the procedures involved in editing.

Trim is one of the operations available after you place clips in the sequence timeline.
