TOPIC: Pro version - is it worth the money?

Pro version - is it worth the money? 11 months ago #166047

I have just purchased the outright version and after watching numerous YouTube tutorial videos it has been suggested that there are no extra editing features compared with the free version... have I just wasted a few hundred pounds??

Only difference so far is that I can upload in full HD.....

All that depends on your needs.

If you
- are happy with max. 720p resolution in MP4 format and don't miss HD/UHD export
- can live with aspect ratio limited to 16:9 on export
- don't need enhanced and commercially usable export and interchange formats
- don't intend to use the Boris effect package and the Blackmagic Fusion plugin
- won't use timline rendering or stereoscopic output
- don't own AJA, Blackmagic, Matrox or Mackie Mixer to be supported
- don't need project sharing, user definable project locations or a Lightworks console
- and don't care much about enhanced Proxy options and an interface to Reaper with V14.1 ..

.. Well, than you've wasted your money most likely and should have read the version comparison from "Product.License Comparison" on top of this page prior to purchase.
It's better to travel well than to arrive...

The Boris software that comes bundled with the outright purchase Lightworks is worth considerably more than the cost of the outright license itself.

The editing functions are generally the same on both the free and pro versions, the differences are outlined here: www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=102&Itemid=213

The worth to you personally depends on what you want to do.

Thanks guys. It's ok tho, just been playing around with Boris Graffiti (which came free with the Lightworks, so did FX) and it's amazing.... well worth the money just for that haha.

IMO, the biggest plus for the Pro version is that it allows you to Export your Edit as an industry standard EDL/AAF or XML file accepted by other Pro software such as DaVinci Resolve. Here, a skilled 'Colo(u)rist' can Conform your Lightworks Edit then massage it into a really exquisite looking film. (assuming, of course your original pictures have some merit....)

Another fringe benefit is that it turns LightWorks into a phenomenal transcoder. It makes quick work for example of turning an 8K Redcode clip into a 4K image sequence.
