TOPIC: Sound broken

Sound broken 8 months, 3 weeks ago #162957

Hi,

I am currently editing some personal family movies.
I imported my video from a mp4 file and edited it.
But after exporting the sounds is broken.
Broken might be a bit hard because it is not muted or something like that.
It is more that in some of the frame there was added some extra noise.

Would be very grateful if anybody could help me.

Best regards
Christoph

How does that "some extra noise" sound like?
It's better to travel well than to arrive...

Here is a sample.
It is pretty wired because if i exported twice the noise is sometimes gone.

Thanks for posting the sample.

Would you mind posting the same clip without the added noise? Just to understand the difference.

Well it might be pretty hard to find exactly these 3 seconds because the movie is pretty large. You are not hearing the noise at all ?

I hear a lot of noise, but I don't know what's in the original recording.

Anyway, the problem might be related to a known randomly occuring issue related to compressed media (e.g. h.264/AVC).

The only way I'm aware of to get rid of this problem is to transcode prior to import to specific intermediate formats. I can provide a link to suitable software.

*** The file seems to be converted from DVD source the sample shows severe combing artifacts. Do you have access to the original media?

Edit *** Thats's a second issue which could also be fixed by the same transcoding step with suitable settings, but it needs access to the original footage. The artifacts can't be removed from the converted file.

Hi,

Yes it was converted from DVD.
The DVD used a .VOB Format. But i only got
access to the videos information. The Meta Information
was stored in separate files and are now lost.

I converted the .VOB files via ffmpeg into mp4 files. And that
is perfectly fine. And on this mp4 file there is no noise.

The wired thing i do not understand why the noise appear after i edited the mp4 files.

Best regards

I think it might be worth trying the 14.1 beta if you're prepared to do that. There have been some fixes for this sort of intermittent audio issue.

The audio issue I'm talking about is appears randomly and disappears temporarily after restart of Lightworks. Nobody knows how to reproduce this reliably. I suspect that's the reason that it hasn't been fixed yet.

As a possible workaround for the audio issue and as a fix for the combing artifacts I'd suggest trying this procedure: www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=6&id=118956&limit=15&limitstart=15&Itemid=81#119003

Please use the preset "Mpeg2 I-Frame HD - Proxy Quarter Size - Deinterlace" from Editing tab instead the defaults.

.. and see what happens.

Please note: To avoid re-editing everything, it should be possible to replace the existing MP4 files used in the project with the transcoded files (same name, same location)with Lightworks shut down. After re-start the new files should be accessed automatically.

Thanks, i will try the beta and your workflow. If this issue still happens or it appears to often i will find another workaround. Thanks anyway.

Just to let the community know. It seems that this bug only occur if you export multiple sequences at the same time. I edited quite a few Videos. And the last Sequence of every video does not contain any noises. However all other Videos does contain such noises

Just to add another one:

It seems to me that recent beta doesn't create echoes anymore at least I wasn't able to force echoes with critical footage and I tried hard.

If this first impression turns out to be true it would be a really huge improvement in audio processing.
