Welcome to the forum.

There are a number of reasons why media can be off line. Did you do anything with the media between Lightworks sessions, has your external hard drive's letter been changed by Windows?

Did this happen in the middle of an editing session?

Here is a video on the managing media, which explains how to relink:

There is also Project Fixer, which can assist in this operation.

This only happens if the location of the video files is changed and LW can't find them. Not LW's fault. It can't guess where the files are. It needs to be told.

Open your project in Flexible mode, click the File icon on one of the missing clips in the clip browser and see which file path is listed. Make sure the files are in the same place the path points to.

Edit: briandrys beat me to it.

May I remind all experienced members that with V14 there are multiple reports from users which suddenly see missng media or black viewers (without message) after restart of Lightworks.

So is there an officially recognized bug in V14?

All I can say is I can open any 5 years old project with V14 and none of my media is missing. Just tried it again and all is still there. But I keep a rigorous routine as to my media storage and every single of my drives have a unique assigned name.

Did you say that Media Location had no entry although you didn't touch it?

Did it look like this, or differently?

What location (what path) did you add to make it work again?

A path is something like that on Windows:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Lightworks\Media

What is the path you selected for the media location?

I had the same problem so I made a backup of my project
highest upper left, click name of project, then click bott rt "MAKE Backup"

Then I backed out of project to projects screen and click on
"restore archived project"

After restoring the backed up project, the links were no longer grey and I was able to relink missing media.

Hello,

This discussion refers to an old version of Lightworks and media management has been changed significantly.

Nevertheless, even today, if the cause of the trouble, as in this case, is an empty panel 'Media Locations', you won't succeed in restoring a backup properly, because Lightworks needs at least one valid media location to do that, even with linked material.

Beside of that, it's always prudent to have a project backup in case of emergency or to return to a certain state of work.
