I'm wondering, has anyone been using the various anaglyph outputs of Lightworks for finished work? I recently have a client who insisted on getting an anaglyph version of a short stereoscopic project. I tried to talk her out of it because the :44 sec. montage is full of wild psychedelic color, but she insisted. I created both a color and b&w Red/Cyan anaglyph version. The b&w I could output from Lightworks. The color I had to output from a compositor. Even though it could end there I have become very curious about the other options.

Also, why is Amber/Blue the only Anaglyph combination with a color or b&w option in Lightworks?

I am ordering a pair of Green/Magenta glasses and a pair of Amber/Blue to see for myself how they work with this color-rich material. Although there are strong opinions about this in web discussions it seems to me this choice will be mainly determined by the particular color palette of the content.

The other technical question is whether there is a difference between the Amber/Blue anaglyph implementation in Lightworks and "Color Code" or "Winther" Amber/Blue implementations.

Thanks for any info!
Tim

Yes, that was the original output, a side-by-side using a viewer. Looked great, all the colors stay put. This is trying to make the best of a client request for anaglyph as well.

This is a very cool link, lots of goood stuff. But my main questions are,
1. Why is Amber/Blue the only Anaglyph combination with a color or b&w option in Lightworks? Was it determined that the other Anaglyph options just look too ugly in color?

2. is there a difference between the Amber/Blue anaglyph implementation in Lightworks and "Color Code" or "Winther" Amber/Blue implementations?

Recently I tested stereoscopic preview and export to 1080p23.98 h.264/MP4 and XDCAM HD. I still have the samples here. From a first glance (without anaglyph goggles), all anaglyph modes seem to work as expected, in preview and export, at least with the formats I tested . These are the options I see (and have tested with) on XDCAM export of V14.5 :

What export format did you choose?

Yes, everything is working as expected, no problem. I used a red/cyan output to H264 mp4. I used another program to get a red/cyan + colour output. I'm looking to find out more about why amber/blue is the only option that has "+ colour" within Lightworks, and whether there are different flavours of amber/blue, and if so what's different, see questions 1&2 below.

Ah, ok I obviously misunderstood this part of your post:

I created both a color and b&w Red/Cyan anaglyph version. The b&w I could output from Lightworks. The color I had to output from a compositor.

I don't know answers to your other questions, nor do I know the rules/standards the existing colour separations are based on, nor am I aware of any related documentation.

Amber/blue are complementary colors that produce white light when combined, which should give better color reproduction. Just as the brain combines the two images to produce depth, it combines the colors to produce neutral color reproduction (more or less).

I find this Wiki article gives a good overview:: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaglyph_3D

It seems as if Amber/Blue is patented: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ColorCode_3-D
