TOPIC: Display Forum posts by Newest First?

Display Forum posts by Newest First? 7 years, 4 months ago #23919

Hi,

I'm probably missing something obvious, but since the new site went live, the display of forum posts has reverted to ascending date order.

I had set the posts to display in descending date order in the old site, but I can't find that set up option in the preferences section.

Does it still exist, and if so, where?

Thanks!

Hello Peter,

You'll find that setting in your Profile > Edit Profile (link at bottom of profile panel) -- last section 'Forum & Social'. It's near the end of the list, after Forum Signature and Social links.

I'm aware that for some users the Edit Profile page isn't displaying correctly
- will be fixed asap.

Good to see you back on the new site.

Hi Site Admin ,

You and the Forum Admin are like the Wizard of Oz. We don't know who you are: very mysterious!

Yep, I was lurking for a while, but have still been using LW -- waiting for the new release, and glad to see it, although I might wait a bit longer, 'til the wee bugs get worked out.

I just edited my display order per your notes, but I got a message:

"The field 'Photo' contains improper values"

I had previously uploaded a photo into the Jobs section by mistake. It stuck, and is displayed there, but I can't delete it.

I think the error above is an error. Is there any way you could switch my display to most recent first?

Thanks!

Peter

Hello Peter,

The registration/edit-profile page has been fixed (as it was previously damaged during compression->CDN distribution). We have removed your photo and are investigating that error (and will add controls for users to do that manually).

The post-ordering should now function correctly (?) - let us know.

Dear Site Admin,

Yep, the most recent first order now works.

Thanks!!

To have date and time to each post would be nice, since there's no way of telling if the post i 5 min or 1 year old right now I am also unable to open 'Forum & Social' (IE8), so I haven't been able check if the setting for this is there.

@SMPse: When I checked last night I was unable to get in the 'Forum & Social' section as well. However, I cheated and used the F12 Developer tools to remove the CSS display none code. Not exactly a solution As for the time and date, the information is actually there but the bar has no background color so it's not visible. If you select the thin area directly above a post you will see time and date. Ctrl-A is probably the quickest way to see what I am talking about. This is slightly annoying as I submitted code and suggestions to fix it back when the site was Alphas only and nothing has been done since. I realize that the developers are busy but for the site to not work correctly in IE is unacceptable. It's a 5 minute fix!

Pardon the rant

@ rhinox202

You're quite right, the site not displaying correctly in IE is unacceptable. The matter will be addressed on monday.

@ SMPse

Thanks for pointing out the 'Forum + Social' display glitch. This will also be fixed on monday. As a temporary solution, the should find that the problem does not appear in other browsers.

@TheResponsibleParty: Thanks for fixing the "Forum + Social" glitch and the Post Title background in IE the other day. It didn't go unnoticed!

Sorry it took a while to get fixed (and for having failed to catch up again with this thread!)
You should find everything behaving in IE9, with only slight differences in IE8.
Let us know if you encounter any other issues!
