Its painful to edit DSLR Footage,do I have to compress my footage or is their a setting that I'm missing can some one help me out thanks .

You have a very underpowered computer for this application. Lightworks does not play well with Intel processor GPU and needs a lot of resources to buffer and edit H.264 compressed video in real time. Minimum recommended hardware is i7 with a discrete ATI or Nvidia GPU with at least 1GB ram. The more ram the better for both GPU and the system.
Transcoding your DSLR footage to a less compressed all i-frame format like Prores would lighten the processing load considerably. Editing using a dedicated external media drive will help too if your Mini has a USB3 or Thunderbolt port.
