This seems to happen when Apple brings out a new operating system, Lightworks and other programs don't run on it.

I'll start a new thread for this, since this is different to the rest of the thread. I suspect this is going to be addressed in the V14.6 beta.

Are you using V14.6 beta?

I agree completely with you, briandrys. It's also a common complaint on the Avid forums. I have software from the '80s written for MS-DOS that I can still run on Windows. I can't think of anything that you could say the same about in the Apple world.

I suspect that the changes in the Mac OS that mandate software rewrites are for the purpose of marketing, not for the purpose of improvement. Windows with all its faults usually manages to sort out backwards compatibility issues pretty well.

I gather Catalina (Mac OS 10.15) has been officially released October 7 2019 and comes with major changes, e.g. Quicktime 7 support has been removed. Since the first developer build has been released June 4 2019, six four months ago, I suspect that Lightworks V14.6 release might support it. That isn't an official statement, just another user's thoughts.

You are replying in the thread I've created.

I'll assume from your message that you've tried the V14.6 beta, so I'll start a "head up" thread in the beta forum. www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=post&do=new&catid=477&Itemid=81

However, I'll keep this thread here, since other Mac users may be having this issue.

The last time I recall this happening with a Mac OS was with the just released V12.5, so V12.6 was brought out a couple of weeks later.

I still run Mojave and I will wait at least 6 months prior to upgrading to Catalina, because I'm tired of all those updates every now and then after first release, lack of community support and trouble with third party software I've experienced with earlier versions of OSX.

As a matter of interest, why did you upgrade to Catalina in this early state?

I've flagged it up in the V14.6 beta forum, where the developers can quickly spot it. They may be already aware of a new Mac operating system, but it probably won't have been supported in the current beta build, which is now just over 3 weeks old.

Lightwork 14.5 has been notarized and should run OK on Catalina.

I didn't do the latest beta as I expected we'd have a new one shortly but I can do that now if it's causing issues for anyone.

@winnithedevil - which versions have you tried?

The lightworks 14.5 dmg has now been updated on the downloads page and should now install successfully on Catalina.
I would also expect the current beta to now install (without needing to download).
