I tried to import clips from an iPhone 1920x1080 29,97fps. When I try to transcode or import with copy m2v files - crash after the process of import some files.
Transcoded into ProRes via Adobe Encoder then try to import again (with copy). Crash again.
When I tried to import with link ProRes files was everything alright.

Hmm... I don't know
There are 37 files and I don't know which of them causes a crash.
May be I'll need to test it one for one?

Something strange )))
I try to import again and in imported all files (ProRes proxy transcoded via Encoder from m4v) without errors and crashes.
(One moments in this one I hadn't connected Contour Shuttle Pro v2)
I tried to import m4v files fro iPhone without converting with copy into Auto fps project all 37 files in one moment - crash ( there files 29,97, 24 and 47.5 fps)
When I imported this files for 5 clips for one moment everything was OK and at end of import I received a message about issue with some files, but no crash.
When I imported all files in 24 fps projects everything was OK

(47,5 fps files from iPhone slo-mo 120fps record)

I tried again and again crash. I don't understand rule of this behaviors
Link is work, Transcod and Copy - not work. (((

And one more comment -all of this files from iPhone are open and import in any other app such as FCP 7 FCP X, Avid MC, Premier Pro, DaVinchi Resolve

I am having the same problem. Importing from MP4 to either MXF or ProRes 422 LT Proxy, most of my imports work, but generally if I try to import more than a couple of files at a time, it will pretty reliably crash. It doesn't repeat on the same file if I retry the import, and if I import the crash-causing file singly, it works 100% of the time.

(Update: This is repeatable after rebooting in Safe Mode and clearing the kernel cache etc.)

System info: Lightworks Pro 12.5, OSX 10.11.1, Macbook Pro Retina with external 1080p monitor, 16 GB RAM.

(Second update: I appears to be related to multiple imports. I started with 97 clips to import. Doing two or more at once crashes most of the time. But on the same files, doing them one at a time I am now about 85 files along, and zero crashes.)

Okay, it happened exactly once on a single import file. I'm attaching the two error logs. I'm also attaching the failed import MP4 file.

I'm so sorry but I can't using Lightworks. It's too unstable. And I can't trust to it.

@ghost355,

Don't be too quick to write off Lightworks. I've found the same bug as you, but I've been working with version 12 since its beta, and their team are really good about fixing bugs we report here.

Any time you are importing low quality highly compressed consumer video codecs like i-phone, it is extremely demanding on computer resources in Lightworks. You might try a Mediainfo analysis of your clips to see if any of them degrade to variable frame rates. This can cause multiple kinds of problems. It is likely you are simply outrunning your laptop's frame buffering capacity which will crash Lightworks.
IOS devices will shift to variable frame rates in low light levels as part of their auto exposure compensation routine.
You should install the latest 12.5 version too if you haven't. Handling of compressed codecs is much improved.

This problem was with ProRes proxy and DXnHD proxy mov files. I trancoded iPhones files after first crashes and thought this helped. No. Crashed all the same
This crash was when I try import files.
I have the last 12.5 version.

Did you send Cookiecutter the file that he asked for? It's hard to diagnose a problem when you don't know what's causing it.

The comment about outstripping frame buffer is a little puzzling to me. The transcoding is not happening in realtime. The algorithm should be reading from an input stream, changing the data, and writing to an output stream. I'm not familiar with the specific APIs involved, but one would think a background process could simply allocate more RAM if it needs it. Since it's not running in realtime, even if its virtual memory ends up in swap space, that's not a critical issue.

Not meaning to argue, just seeking to understand what you're saying. As I say, I do program but I don't work with codec APIs myself.

I posted log files and a small MP4 sample with my post from Saturday, but I don't see the links here. Did those come through?

I was actually responding to ghost355. I should have made that clear.

I would assume that the post went through, but I'm a user, just like you. The guys who will be looking at this are based in the UK, so you'll have to wait until they wake up.
