My main camera now is a full frame DSLR--the very good Nikon D750. It shoots HD at 20mbps, and the picture looks great. However, I would like to be able to pan and zoom more in post while maintaining quality. I'm wondering if a professional HD camcorder recording at 50mbps would be a noticeable upgrade for me. I don't have a lot of money to spend, but I'm getting the idea that there are some very good used HD cameras on the market right now for not too much money. I'm specifically thinking about the Canon XF-300 or a Sony XDCAM. I get the feeling that organizations are trading in their HD cameras for 4K units, which is why I see these very good HD cams on Ebay for < $1500. Does anyone have an opinion? I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thank you,

Possibly people are trading in their HD cameras for 4K units so they can "pan and zoom more in post while maintaining quality". Depending on the intended final output quality - XDCAM HD422 at 50 Mbit/s is possibly not a long term solution - however XDCAM well shot should be a substantial step up from the Nikon D750 H264 AVC pictures.

One would also need to allow for the more expensive Sony SxS camera cards - from memory they are standard for XDCAM 50 Mbit/s.

What does $1500 buy from the BlackMagicDesign camera inventory??
BETA System
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64BIT
HP Z800 Workstation

Thanks, the BlackMagic is a good idea. I'll put that on my watch list as I figure out my next move.
