New to LWKS, just sorted Decklink card I/O and decided to try DV via FireWire but can’t seem to make it stick. Configured new device, Sony miniDV camera attached to Microsoft DV and VTR, Controlled via FireWire. Hit standby and FireWire control reverts to 9 pin and therefore no device. This works in Media Composer and PremPro CS6. Camera appears in Devices etc. Can’t find much on this issue in this forum and nothing regarding FireWire in documentation.

Firewire doesn't work with Lightworks. You need to use third party software to import the DV video onto your hard drive as video files.

That’s a shame, was trying to do everything in one workspace but thanks for the info. Are the Microsoft DV and VTR / IEEE1934 Links ‘legacy’?

Just to confirm, current V14.5 Release notes say under "Limitations And Known Problems", subheading "Cross Platform": "There is no Firewire support"
It's better to travel well than to arrive...

Could be, on Windows in versions prior to V14.0, but I've never used it, so I can't say for sure.

I believe it was 2010 (it's listed in the User Guide), but it has been dropped, I assume because DV and HDV have become less commonly used in recent years.

Probably also because most recent OS's don't support firewire either.

I seem to be able to utilise it in Win 7 & 10. The DV file type is kind is kind of built around it? It’s the ( as far as I know) only way to import DV ‘natively’ without further loss or transcoding. PremPro seems the best workaround but you do have to reverse field priority in LWKS. Happy to learn of a more efficient workflow though......

AVS4YOU utility suite can capture DV via firewire if your PC supports it.
I use that for my old Canon GL2.
Best to capture as MPEG2 video file for Lightworks rather than as DV file format. DV is MPEG2, but Lightworks handles the video in .MP2 format better.
If you already have Premiere, I would use that.
