TOPIC: Audio out of Sync after Import

Audio out of Sync after Import 4 years ago #99245

I am still reasonably new to lightworks but I have edited around 4 videos so far with around 20-30 imported clips with no problems. Today after importing, all my audio is out of sync and my video is a few seconds ahead.

The only change from the old clips is the camera i used. I went from a Canon 5D to a Canon 500D. Could this issue be caused by frame rate? There doesnt seem to be a specific setting on the 500D as there was for the 5D in terms of frame rate setting. I set lightworks to 24fps to work with youtube.

Any tips would be really appreciated!

Also just wanted to point out that it works fine on VLC

You'll want to post the MediaInfo analysis on both sources for assistance. It may be more than simply a video frame rate issue.

Sorry but I'm not really sure what info is needed and where to get it? I'm pretty new to it all.

The old media runs at a nominal 24 fps, and as expected will behave as you would expect. The new bad media runs at 20 fps and can be expected to have audio sync problems. The 500D is also encoding audio at 44.1 kHz, as opposed to 48 kHz on the 5D. While that will be less of a problem, Lightworks defaults to 48 kHz.

I don't know if EyeFrame will correct for this problem, but I would try it. I know that Cliptoolz will, but it's been withdrawn by the developer for legal reasons. If you can find a copy on line it would certainly be worth a try.

EyeFrame will adjust frame rate as commanded and all conversions with audio are set to 48 kHz sample rate.

Thanks Don. I thought that it should, given that they both use the same engine to perform the magic.

Re: Audio out of Sync after Import 4 years ago #99289

Thanks for the help. Ill give eyeframe a go and hopefully get it working.

Re: Audio out of Sync after Import 4 years ago #99330

Hi

I've been having similar problems with imported video from my iPhone 5s.

I then installed MoviePro that allowed me to capture at 25fps but it was still a Variable FPS and not constant. I still had problems so read a few posts and have tried Handbrake.

So I think I have a suitable video file but as soon as its imported it just can't handle it and video starts to stutter as the audio runs smoothly.

Any guidance would be very much appreciated.

Below is the MediaInfo.

The "stuttering" is likely that the computer can't handle the AVC material. AVC is compressed media so it has to be decompressed on the fly to edit. Better to use EyeFrame and get to an uncompressed format for editing.

If you use an uncompressed format you may very well change one cause of this problem for another. Uncompressed files are huge, and if your hard drive system isn't fast enough to get the data on and off in time you'll get the same issues. I can, but I've always used RAID arrays. Most users don't.

There are a range of compressed formats designed for editing. They will all increase the size of your media, but should improve your editing experience considerably. Both DNxHD and ProRes were designed for editing, but you could try DVCpro HD or MPEG422@ML. The latter you can transcode as you import into Lightworks, and you can adjust the bit rate to suit your needs. Experiment a little to find what best suits you.

That's really important. It takes quite a bit of time to sift through all the formats and bitrates to get to something that is just right. That's another thing that's worth the time to figure out.
