TOPIC: Re-wrapping AVCHD MTS files to mp4

Re-wrapping AVCHD MTS files to mp4 7 years ago #8422

For a method of re-wrapping AVCHD MTS files to mp4 see this post. It uses Mediacoder and Audacity. Lightworks cannot as yet handle importing mts containers but re-wrapping these files to mp4 allows this without loss of quality (no transcoding).

EDIT

See also this later post n the same thread which describes a simpler way to re-wrap MTS files to MP4.

What settings did you convert footage to?

Your excellent wiki write-up mentions my pdf file of Mediacoder settings but does not provide a link to it. Could this be added?

Welcome to the forum.

Bear in mind that this thread comes from the time of an earlier, beta version of Lightworks, which had limited import options.

Yes AVCHD .MTS is directly importable now. No need to rewrap or transcode unless it is to move to a higher quality intermediate DI codec like DNXHD or ProRes.

Lightworks failed to transcode on import with one of my m2ts files last night. It was the first time I attempted the operation. I just reverted to my normal workflow of transcoding prior to import.

I deleted the post from that user as I suspect that it's SPAM. If that user would like to get back to us and elaborate a little we'll reinstate it.
