I'm importing screen capture video (portrait) from my phone. This imports with letterboxing with black stripes either side of the video. This is fine as I am adding titles to give information in the black stripes.

Is there any way to change the colour of the stripes for some of the imported clips?

I thought this might do the trick, but I installed it and cannot manage to change the colour of the boarders.

It is possible with the Format Fixer, but it isn't a one click action, as far as i can see. The designer of the effect, jwrl, can surely explain the easiest way how to do it. I see a way, but I don't know if it's the easiest.

What you can do for the time being is combining the effects 'Colour Matte and '2D DVE', routed like this.

Crop the borders with the DVE and set the colour with the matte.
It's better to travel well than to arrive...

Or you could just move the X crop in on format fixer. See here for more information. You can generate colour and background fill in that one effect.

You could also use a colour gradient effect and connect it to the Bgd input if you want a little more sophistication. And finally, if you want a simple fix with a gradient background, there's always Gradient shape. Set the shape to rectangle, invert the mask and adjust the width and height as you need. You might like to check out the Border and Crop effects for more ideas.

I tried all of those and they worked. I like the idea of using the gradient shape to highlight part of the video. It might come in useful one day.

Glad that they help.

It's actually a very flexible effect. Try experimenting with the transparency settings of the colours - you can quickly set transparency gradients that way. And of course if you want a single flat colour instead of a gradient, set up one colour and use the eyedroppers from the others to sample the colour that you've set up.
