By default, Lightworks does not store projects online in a cloud, but locally on your old computer.

For example, did you transfer projects from your old computer to your new computer using Lightworks project backups?

Do I understand you correctly that you created a new project, clicked on "Local Files" in the LOG tag, browse there for your media files, but only see the folders without content in Lightworks?

What file format do these files have (mp4, WMV, or ...?)?

Do you mean the Windows desktop on your screen, or the design of your computer?
Personally, I wouldn't store media for Lightworks on the Windows desktop because I don't know if Lightworks has all the necessary access rights.

If you can't see any of your videos, they might be not there?

One of the possible causes for this is that you haven't moved them from your old computer to the new one.

Are the mp4 files visible in Windows Explorer? If so, what happens if you drag and drop one of them to Lightworks?

Or is security software or Windows settings preventing access to files?
Does a warning appear when Lightworks starts?
Do Windows notifications include messages about denied access (are Windows notifications active)?

Suppose you are using Windows 10, then I meant what you see when you click on this icon:

Maybe a message like this? (but I have a German system, and I don't have the latest function update installed):
This image is hidden for guests. Please log in or register to see it.

For example, do you have a USB stick or SD card available for testing?
Then you could copy a single mp4 file to it and test if Lightworks can import it from that location. Not as a permanent solution, but only to locate the cause.

Here is a short test file that I exported with Lightworks, if you want to try if it can be imported on your system.

Screenshots of the messages may help.

That helps. The message shows a file with the extension 'mkv'.

MKV is a container format which can carry almost any codec, very flexible but, demanding to decode. MKV import is usually not supported by professional NLE's. However, Lightworks has added mkv support for some selected codecs with V14.6 beta, but it's considered to be experimental, as far as I know.

I'd suggest converting those file to a better suitable format.

If you could post your computer details and a Mediainfo report of that file, I could propose some suitable conversion software and settings. Here you'll find information on how to post Mediainfo reports:

Assuming that you use a laptop computer, manufacturer/model, operating system and the size of your internal hard drives (or SSDs) would be sufficient.

Where to download the software Mediainfo and how to create and post a Mediainfo report is explained in the thread I've linked to above.
