I am an unprofessional lightworks user.
I'm trying to find a new laptop that isn't too expensive and will run lightworks.. purely for my own pleasure and no professional needs. Preferably, under 500 CAD$ and I have found this 'HP 14-inch Probook 840 G1 Notebook'.. all the specs seem good except it runs i5 processing, not i7:

1.9 GHz Intel i5-4300U Duad-Core Processor
8 GB of DDR3L SDRAM
1 TB Hard Disk Drive
3 MB Cache
Intel HD Graphics 4400

Does this mean that the program would not run on this laptop? I would really appreciate any advice, thank you.

Hello,

I assume that the i5-4300U has two physical and four logical cores which indeed may be well described with "Duad-Core", but nobody ever said it.

Assuming that you intend using Windows 10, Lightworks will run on this machine. Persoanlly I would add a SSD as system drive to improves overall system performance and use a second (fast) hard drive for media.

However, editing performace depends highly on resolution and format of the media used and, the complexity of your edits. Gladly, Lightworks provides an internal proxy workflow which can be used to increase performance significantly if the limits are reached.
It's better to travel well than to arrive...

HP also offer refurbs, and both Dell and HP offer new machine guarantees with them. It would be well worth a look in my opinion.

You can get refurbished gaming laptops from both manufacturers, I'd get one with a USB3 connector for the external drives. It's also, worth checking out the sales for any deals.

Try to get one with a USB-C or thunderbolt connector, if you can.
I work in Manhattan, USA, but at night I cross the waters to sleep in Brooklyn, USA.

Also, post production is not an afterthought!

Further to this, I had USB 3 in the head after looking at external hard drives, here is info on USB C and Thunderbolt.

EDIT I would also get a mouse, rather than use the touchpad. Lightworks is designed for a mouse.
