Using "x" on its own also seems to work.

From the 2010 Users Guide on Empty Cut, it refers to the Lightworks console, "c" does the same in a single operation:

"You can make an empty cut in your edit, also referred to as an invisible edit, a
zero-length edit, or an unintentional splice. For example, you might want to
change the sync of one part of a piece of audio without affecting the rest. Empty
cuts are often used when you varispeed part of a clip, or when you make audio
level-control adjustments within a clip.
To make an empty cut, do the following.
TASK
1. Deselect any tracks you do not want to cut.
2. Press the Mark button on the console, and then press the Delete button.
Because the current frame and the blue mark are in the same place, no
frames are deleted. leaving an empty cut."

A promised advanced user guide has yet to appear and I suspect empty cut may be intended to appear in it, however, perhaps the User Guide could easily use it.

As the above extract suggests, it's not intended for basic editing functions (eg deleting frames), more for within clip effects.

Not only is it not intended for it, it won't do it.

I want to jump in here because no one else seems to have said it. Just park on the track you want to cut and click the delete icon with your mouse or cntroller. This will put a cut.

Sure will - there's usually more than one way to do things in Lightworks!

Where "c" is useful is when you already have marked your timeline and you realise that you need a cut. It ignores marks, where the delete icon certainly won't.
