TOPIC: Imported Video is upside down

Re: Imported Video is upside down 4 months, 2 weeks ago #213286

Yes, however, even though you 'add' the VFX to rotate the XY axes 180 degrees it's still a VFX. My original video playback window (not the edited window with the VFX) will still show me an upside-down video .

Any answer as to why it imports it into the media library flipped?

There is several possible root causes: Wrong or misinterpreted metadata at the rcording device, media linked on import instead of transcoded, maybe misinterpreted metadata within Lightworks depending on the media format etc.

The new beta version of Lightworks provides an Auto-Rotate option at the project settings pane. Playing with this might help solving such issues, and getting rid of the need to use an extra effect for this.

Maybe you should consider joining the beta.

The VFX doesn't change the source video, only when the clip is in the timeline where the effect is applied, not before.

As timzett says the 2020.1 beta has an Auto-Rotate option, so if this is of concern to you, the beta may be worth checking out. Note that it's not the release version, so issues may still arise. although it's get close.

In 'VFX' mode, open the tab '+'. On the pull down menu next to 'Category'switch to 'DVE'. Under 'Components you'll see the effect'Flip'.

To rotate 180 degrees, you need to combine two effects, Flip and Flop.

Or you can use Flip flop, which is more efficient and does a full 180 degree rotation. Hopefully that won't be necessary for very much longer either. Check out this post earlier in this thread and the four or five posts following it. Of particular note is fishmonger's comment about the possible addition in post #174950. In version 2020.1 he or one of the other developers has carried out what was suggested as something that they would like to add.
