I have a video recorded on an iPhone/iPad that plays correctly when played standalone.

When I import this video into lightworks it is rotated 180 degree so that it is upside down.

Welcome to the forum.

Put your video into a sequence, open the VFX tab, under DVE you will find flip, which will turn your video the right way up. Make a print using the timeline menu and use that as a source for your edit.

Better still, use the user effect "Flip flop". Flip will just invert the image, leaving right and left sides swapped and giving you a mirror image. Flip flop requires less processing overhead than the Lightworks Flip and Flop effects combined and can be found here. It's currently the third effect from the top of that post.

Using Flip you will get this.

Thanx so much for your guidance.

I moved the play marker to my video

Under VFX when I click on the + I see 3D DVE but I don't see flip or flop

I then selected the Z axis and rotated 180 degrees

This seems to give me what I want

Does this make sense or is there a downside for what I did?

Thanx for your help!

Yes, it makes sense. Flip and Flop is just another way to rotate by 180 degrees. 3D DVE might need more GPU power to rotate.
It's better to travel well than to arrive...

3D DVE will need more GPU power to rotate. I'm surprised that you couldn't find flip or flop though. Are you not seeing something like this?

Even if you don't use Flip flop, using Flip then Flop should be better than using the 3D DVE.

I'm seeing the exact same issue. Currently trialing the free version for the first time.

I just imported my videos (shot using my phone), and they are all upside down. Is there anyway to have them imported with the correct orientation?

I can manually rotate them, but that seems like a lot of overhead for something that wasn't an issue to begin with.

Not in the upcoming 14.5 release, but it's something we'd like to add.

For the moment you'll have to use the 3D DVE or add the user effect as recommended by jwrl:-

That's unfortunate, but I appreciate the reply. Definitely a barrier to entry for people new to video editing.

Would rotating the phone 180 degrees solve the problem?

It might be worth running a test to discover which way gives the correct ordination on your phone. You could then put a bit of tape on your phone as an "up" marker, or, I gather, you can switch off the phone's screen rotation:

This is happening to me as we speak. I've tried shooting the videos by orienting my phone different ways and it doesn't make a difference. If I shoot with the front camera, the images is fine on import. If I shoot with the selfie side lens (So that I can see myself as I address camera) it's upside down. There is no Flip/Flop option under my VFX button. I too am on the Free version: Which I'll deleting again because I can't get this issue solved.

So many people tell me to download Lightworks and I've tried it 3 different times. Can't do it anymore. I've spent hours trying to solve this problem. It really sucks because this is such a great program. I hate iMovie and I'm not spending 300.00 on Final Cut Pro. I'm seriously stuck right now.

Welcome to the forum.

Select DVE in the list of effects on the browser, Flip and Flop is under that section.

If necessary, first click on the "+" above if you are still in the "Settings" or anywhere else.
