NOTE These video tutorials were created with/for Lightworks version 10 which may result in inconsistencies with version 14 and V14.5. Please check the later video tutorials available on this site: www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=162&Itemid=246&start=QuickStart

General Introduction Part 1 - The Toolbar and rooms

General Introduction Part 2 - Source Viewer, Console and the Timeline

General Introduction Part 3 - More about the Console and Timeline

General Introduction Part 4 - Moving footage around on the timeline

General Introduction Part 5 - More about Trimming

A video tutorial that introduces Lightworks to users who are new to video editing or who may have used only very basic editors like Windows Live Movie Maker.

Select the highest quality playback rate (720p) in the above YouTube clipa to get the sharpest picture.

See also this tutorial about installing the Matrox codecs and QuickTime 7.6.6 or later before installing Lightworks.

Additional information:

If you prefer text-based help, the Lightworks FAQ can be found at www.lwks.com/faq and gives answers to common questions. Just type a likely word or phrase into the Search field - it will display the most relevant answers, in much the same way as the search function does in this forum.

This FAQ will be a work in progress as Lightworks continues to develop. If you have a suggestion for a topic for inclusion, please let the team know by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

I hope that everyone want to add their video tutorials to this topic. I want it to be one topic with all unofficial tutorials. It's good to have watched the official tutorials before watching this.

MODERATOR When watching these videos be aware that V14 has introduced some changes to the classical layout (now called Flexible).

I've created a little tutorial on how to create a CCTV type effect using Lightworks if anyone is interested:

You can download the additional Lightworks effects that I used in the tutorial from the Lightworks forum by following this link: User Effects files (Post #1 has them all)

You can download the scan line image overlay that I used below.

Good explantion of Chroma Subsampling, Bit Depth and SD/HD 5 years, 10 months ago #37593

This is a tutorial I came across on Vimeo about HD and how it differs from SD. It is presented by UK film editor Eddie Hamilton.

This presentation from 2009 is a bit dated now. It talks about tape-based camera formats but the explanation of chroma subsampling, bit depth and SD/HD is very good and still relevant especially for VFX and colour grading.

It also talks about long GOP I-frame and inter-frame compression.

It also briefly explains what anamorphic DVD is.

@Henry51 - OK, I understand what you mean.

It's the color grading that gives it the filmlook. But I'm not good at it. Try to watch tutorials for other programs and learn the technique, and then adapt it to Lightworks.

Sorry, can't view these tutorials! Using Windows 7; where the tutorials are listed I have just a box outline with a small "no entry" sign. Similar issue on some other postings.

Any suggestions?

Regards
Bob
