I've got the ShuttlePROv2 working in Linux (Ubuntu) with the help of these topics: forums.contourdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3881 and freecode.com/projects/shuttlepro
I just had to figure out the different keystrokes but finally it works. Now I can use the shuttle in every program I want and I can say that it works great with Lightworks ![]() |

I enclosed the file you asked. I always start it manually in the Terminal with the "shuttle" command because I could not get it work depending on which program (kdenlive or lightworks) I was using.
Don't forget to put a . before the name of the file. |

In the line: K2 XK_a # go to the last snapshot I presume that "K2" is the key (button) number two and "XK_a" is the code name for Lightworks event "go to the last snapshot". My question: is there a Lightworks event list? Thanks. |

K1,K2,....K15 are the keys on the Shuttle ProV2.
"a" is the shortcut for 'move back to the previous cut/mark/cue'. You can find all these shortcuts in Lightworks in the Key assignments list and you can change them to your needs. |

Would this work on KDE? I believe this would be very useful to me in Lightworks, Natron, Blender and several other programs, maybe even audio software like LMMS and Qtraktor, but if the hardware would not work on Kubuntu 14.04 it will not work on KXStudio, a derivative I'm using now....

This will work because it´s just generating keystrokes. Every program that can handle shortcuts will work fine with the ShuttleProV2.

It is good to say that ShuttleXpress doesn't offer the right control with the precision we used to have when dealing with professional jog/shuttles...

Does that limit of 2 units found in Windows and Mac apply to Linux too or can I have 3 or more? If so, do both Xpress and Pro add up to the limit value or can I have 2 of each? Here I am thinking of building a modular "panel", if you know what I mean...

I expect the Shuttle Express jog and shuttle wheels behave the same way that the ShuttleProV2 does. The jog is very close to analog, including slow scrub with audio, if it is assigned to the console left/right jog commands in Lightworks. This is the behavior I mapped for my SP2 with the console jog command.
The Lightworks jog function with audio scrubbing is not exactly frame by frame per key stroke, which is how the Contour Shuttle and X-keys work. Each detent you feel when you turn the jog wheel is a keystroke command. The way the jog function is programmed in Lightworks: 1. 3 clicks forward moves 1 frame and stops at the next frame. 2. 2 clicks forward bumps forward 1 frame and stops at the head of the frame, so it repeats the same frame. 3. 1 click forward no response 4. Continuous forward rotation is one frame per click after the first three clicks. Reverse jog function: 1. 1 click back starts a continuous slow sub frame crawl that stops at the head of the current frame when you click forward or hit stop. 2. 2 clicks back moves backward 1 frame and stops. 3. Continous rotation back is one frame per click after the first two. Note: Some aspects of this response table were broken in one of the recent 12.5 betas. Haven't checked to see with the latest. Works the same way on a keyboard if you assign the jog function to the arrow keys. If you hold the arrow keys down it advances at the OS system assigned key repeat rate. So it is a property of the key command program in Lightworks. I find it works pretty well for precisely timing audio cues once you get used to it. There is a separate key command for single frame steps, but that one does not do audio scrubbing. By default it is mapped to "," and "." keys on the keyboard. You can also map the shuttle wheel to jog or single frame commands with different key repeat rates for finer control of sub 1x shuttle speeds. High shuttle speeds beyond 2x may not be very responsive if your computer and media drive data transfer rates aren't up to the task. |
