LW has the ability to effectively do what is being requested. Simply mark the current play-head position - drag the cursor to wherever desired on the timeline manipulating visible timeline range as much as required and guided by play-head derived visual information - when satisfied press the 'swap' key and the cursor will jump back to the position marked as the first action. And for instant comparison of two positions - just press the 'swap' key agai, and again.

Add to this the ability, as David Rasberry has noted, to set, name and then select/jump to as many cues as necessary; then LW well covers the requirement.

If the LW method is not to a user's liking they are always free to request that their own preferred methodology be adopted. No doubt that request will be considered and prioritised.
