I have been working on Lightworks for a while, suddenly today, the software crashes when I click on "Local Files" to import a file.
So to be specific-
1) I opened Lightworks
2) Clicked on a Project
3) Clicked on "Local Files"

What I tried -
- Removing the program and downloading and reinstalling.
- Different projects
- New project
- Restarting MAC
All with no avail.

I have attached the Apple crash report. I assume it has something to do with the file system, but I can't understand exactly what is causing this.

PLEASE HELP!

Hello,

Thank you for posting the OSX crash report.

Could you post a zipped archive of your Lightworks Logs folder, please? On OSX you you'll find it on
/Users/<current user>/Lightworks/Logs

Thank you.

First, I'm not with Editshare, just a user of the software. Random crashes when browsing files with 2020.1 have been reported on OSX (and Linux) already several times. I'm not sure what they are caused by and if there's is a single or multiple causes.

However, the most recent Lighworks error log shows very low available memory, which might be part of the problem.

Available memory : 2.0 GB
Total memory : 16.0 GB
Virtual Address Range : 4.8 GB

Please restart your computer again and make sure that all unused applications are shut down. Start Lightworks and without opening the tab 'Local Files' open the file 'error.log' in the Logs folder. If it shows more than 4 GB of free RAM, browse the local files and see what happens. If it shows less then 4GB the question is, how can that be?

It has enough memory... I'm getting 3GB even when the app is open.
BTW - this time the local files opened, but there were media that weren't analyzed so I couldn't import. Then when I clicked Retry media analysis - it crashed again.
Does the last line shed any light?

Looking at the error log - I see this:

No it doesn't, unfortunately. From what you tell, it's very likely that on of more of your files in the current directory cause the crash. How many files are in this directory?

Just a side note: 3 GB out of 16 GB of free RAM is by no means enough memory to run video editing software with long GOP media (e.g. MP4) in HD or above. OSX isn't very resource hungry, same as Lightworks. As a matter of interest, do you know, what consumes the rest on your system?

There are only 3 files. I'll try to isolate maybe a specific file being the issue...
Re:Memory, Attached a screenshot from the activity monitor at the exact same time that the error log shows 2.2 GB. There doesn't seem to be such a high usage anywhere else. Is there some way to allocate more RAM to lightworks?

It seems like it crashed when trying to analyze the .mov file I had in there.
I converted it to MP4 and everything was fine.

Glad to hear that you've found the file and a way to fix the problem.

Would you mind sharing a Mediainfo report of the file? Here you'll find directions:

Lightworks reports the free system memory it detects on startup. It allocates (and frees) memory on demand. There's no way to allocate memory exclusively for Lightworks. I suspect, the apparently missing memory is consumed by some other application running in the background.
