(I have tried the non-beta version as well with the same results)

 lightworks depends on nvidia-cg-toolkit; however:

Based on my googling, the following should work but it just completely removes LightWorks from my computer:

sudo apt-get install -f

I have also tried manually installing some of the missing dependencies but to no avail. AFAIK, the specs for my Chromebook are still sufficient for Lightworks:

After searching Reddit for the better part of an hour, I think I was able to find the solution on these forums. Turns out the issue revolves around Debian 9 (Stretch) which doesn't include a handful of necessary packages. There are some workarounds offered in another thread that I think might apply to Chromebooks as well.

Alternatively, to anyone else that has a Chromebook and is running into issues, AFAIK, Debian 10 (Buster) is scheduled to come to ChromeOS in February 2020 according to this website so just waiting long enough will hopefully resolve the issue.

Hello,

I can't imagine that the hardware currently available with Chromebooks, even on the high end, is well suitable for video editing, even if you would succeed in installing a supported OS.

The officially supported Linux distros are Ubuntu, Mint and Fedora. As a matter of interest, does any of those run full featured and native (with direct hardware access, not virtualized) on a Chromebook?
It's better to travel well than to arrive...
