I updated my machines to Linux Mint19.1 and though the overall performance improved I have issues with lightworks, I haven´t had before:

When I boot mint freshly and open lightworks things work ok at first. when I have it running for a while and do other stuff lightworks playback gets stuck and i cannot playback anymore really..

I know this is a VERY vague description and hard to analyse maybe , but maybe someone has similar issues? or no issues at all with 19.1? I m curious...

What does memory usage look like once Lightworks becomes sluggish?

but now i tried several times: the memory does not always get up that high and the program gets stuck anyways, so hard to track it down to the memory.. also weird that i really have to restart the whole computer and not just the program...

edit: not entierly true: restarting the program seems to be sufficient

Looks rather like the audio stops working, hence everything grinds to a halt, hope that's a clue

thank you fishmonger for the hints.

and yes there is a sound issue, that appeared with the update. when i stop jack/cadence it works!! i havent tracked down yet what exactly the problem is (btw is there a way to connect lightworks directly to jack now? i thought so but i cannot dial in anything in the audio preferences: I/O device is greyed out.. )

but works for me for now

After the update (maybe kernel update) your audio devices are probably enumerated in a different order, they're named differently, or PortAudio recognizes different audio device as the default one.

If you have OuputDeviceIndex or OutputDeviceName in ~/Lightworks/GlobalSettings.txt defined, you should change it according to a new values (number or name). If not, you can add something like this:

[PortAudio]
OutputDeviceName=default

where "default" can be a name of your device ("jack", probably).

You can find all names in ~/Lightworks/Logs/error.log file.
